Job Description

Your role in helping us shape the future:
As a Sr. Engineer, Technical Operations, you will be an initial point of contact for all production issues (Software) related to Intelsat Infight's core services such as In-Flight Connectivity (IFC)/In-Flight Entertainment (IFE)/IPTV on retrofit and next generation Onboard Experience (OX)/Electronically Steering Antennas (ESA) architectures. You will understand various software deployment methods and processes based on multiple technologies and become a SME on deploying the SW diligently without causing any adverse impact to production network. You will have desire to gain thorough technical knowledge on end-to-end system for providing quick analysis and work with cross functional teams for driving resolution on production issues. In addition, you will be creating various dashboards and status reports for executives and end customers. You will be expected to build strong system level technical knowledge and use critical thinking to resolve issues faster.

  • Understand the end-to-end system for understanding various SW deployments and impact of an error in that process.
  • Work with cross functional teams resolving conflicts during the SW deployment and providing service performance assessment post deployment.
  • Develop a strong background in Intelsat Infight's technology platforms (KU, 2KU, ATG, ATG4 and GGV/IPTV) as well as third party technologies.
  • Understanding complex systems and able to diagnose and isolate the failures to a product/component level
  • Generate reports by fleet, technology, or airlines to assess the defect impact
  • Triage SW defect via strong analysis techniques (log/data analysis, defect tracking, etc.). Determine and document initial root cause, impact, severity, and frequency of failures
  • Drive Internal Review Board (IRB) meetings with cross functional teams to agree and provide visibility on initial failure and impact
  • Ensure airlines fleet are performing optimally by focusing on various metrics such as Service Availability, QoS, CX, LRU pulls, NFF etc. and driving improvements as needed
  • Participate in corrective action reports and root cause analysis exercises (e.g., fish bone, 8D, 5 Why's, etc.)
  • Generate test plans for reproducing field issues in lab environment
  • Create reports for complex/critical production issues for senior management.
  • Define, measure, and accomplish documented individual/team Objectives and Key Results (OKR's)
  • Occasional travel to support new install/maintenance activities
  • Define and develop defect analysis tools for quick turn around
  • Support returned box analysis from production
  • Develop and improve production diagnostics tools
  • Use innovative methods to identify and solve the most complex problems and think beyond existing solutions.
  • Document and enforce SW deployment process and update it as necessary.
  • Proactively collaborate with SW Development, HW Engineering, Accounts and Operations leaders to help identify opportunities and/or solve complex problems that impact the management and direction of Commercial Aviation.

You should definitely have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 15+ years of industry experience in Software Development/Test Life Cycle (SDLC/STLC), including at least 10+ years of hands-on SW Quality management experience.
  • Knowledge of SW QA concepts and methodology; Defining SW Quality OKRs
  • TCP/IP, Linux/Shell Scripting, Packet Capture/WireShark, Jira, Wiki, Test Director
  • JQL, SQL, Python, Java, Go, Git, Jenkins (CI), Spinnaker (CD), AWS
  • CMP, Sumo, AAA, Kibana, Elasticsearch, Toaster, Flight Summary, Network Analysis
  • Excellent Verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe PI), DevOps and SRE

It would be nice if you had:
  • Strong networking background with CCNA/CCNE certifications
  • Six Sigma Certification a plus (Green Belt/Black Belt)
  • Experience working closely with development and business teams to communicate problem impacts and to understand business requirements.
  • Experience in SAFe agile development methodologies with continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD)
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to track deployments across multiple technologies/airlines and to be able to synthesize the results.
  • Experience validating high-quality consumer facing applications on embedded communications platforms.
  • Creativity and initiative to improve software product quality and reliability.
  • Comfort communicating cross-functionally and across management levels and customers in formal and informal settings.

  • Will be part of a 24x7 support rotation.
  • Must be able to travel. Travel will only be about 10% of your time.
