SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Senior Financial Analyst is a member of the FP&A Capital Delivery Operating and Reimbursable team and is responsible for financial analysis behind Amtrak's Capital Delivery Department Operating and Reimbursable financial decisions. Responsibilities include interaction with Finance business partners, ELT and SLT and their staffs to participate in the development of assumptions in line with business practices and future expectations. Major undertakings will include support of the monthly accruals, monthly forecast, headcount review, and variance reporting, labor analyses, business financial models, among others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and reconcile journal entries, monthly accruals, and year end accruals.
- Perform review, analyses, and reporting of monthly forecast and variances.
- Interact and communicate frequently with Finance Business Partners to ensure financial model input/output data and cost are consistent with business practices and expectations, and identify trends, resulting implications, and key actions.
- Support and facilitate the preparation and compilation of an Amtrak financial metrics book including expenses, labor, headcount, and update on a monthly basis.
- Preparation of various financial analyses that support the Director FP&A Capital Delivery Operating and Reimbursable, ELT, and others.
- Translate outputs of financial analysis into meaningful insights for executive level management, the Board, congress and any other pertinent constituent.
- Calculation and preparation of the financial sections of all major deals and contracts.
- Perform ad hoc and on-going financial analyses in support of labor negotiations and ongoing operations.
- Other finance related analyses and as requested by the ELT and SLT.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or business-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, work experience and training.
- Minimum 6 years demonstrated professional experience in financial analysis/quantitative functions.
- Proven ability to effectively interface with individuals at various levels within and outside of the organization to exchange information, work cooperatively, facilitate understanding and persuade and influence others
- Experience effectively communicating financial concepts to financial and non-financial audiences
- Strong, demonstrated skill and experience in spreadsheet data modeling and high proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
- Experience demonstrating skill in the classification and proper accounting for complex business transactions.
- Strong aptitude and proficiency in compiling, analyzing, interpreting and reporting large amounts of quantitative data for business use and action
- Experience with Amtrak financial systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in the transportation industry
- MBA or other professional certification
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $78,830 - $102,160, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
