Sr Frontend Engineer

Tecovas is the first direct-to-consumer western brand, founded with the simple goal of making the world’s best western boots, apparel, and leather goods - and selling them at a fair price. We are a brand revolutionizing a category and welcoming first-time boot buyers and western enthusiasts alike. 

Tecovas is looking for a Sr Frontend Engineer to help shape the next growth phase of Tecovas online business. Reporting directly to the CTO, you are an experienced and agile engineering leader and you will contribute with a growth hacking mindset, and build web applications and digital products for increased performance. You will make key tech stack decisions that will impact the next 3-5 years of Tecovas growth and be responsible for end-to-end deployment of systems and tools powering the customer experience.

This position is based out of Austin, TX but will have the ability to work from home and in-office.

What you’ll do:

• Work in a cross-functional team together with a product manager, software engineers, digital designer, and data specialists to build new digital products and meet ambitious targets.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, performance, and scalability
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code to ensure that it does the job both in terms of functionality and usability
• Research optimal solutions and find the best way to implement UI/UX designs
• Trailblaze with the latest technologies from Shopify and solve problems that have not yet been solved before (Including leveraging Hydrogen and Oxygen)
• Steer technical innovation and advocate for frontend development best practices and application architecture
• Work closely and remotely in a cross-functional team to create great team culture and user experiences
• Build, support, and maintain systems that are directly related to the frontend features (including content management systems, customized features, and in-house APIs)
• Humbly accept criticism from other team members as they review your work
• Develop processes and tools that aid in testing the website to ensure compliance with
• standards and allow for faster delivery

Experience we’re looking for:

• 5+ years of software development experience (software architecture, design patterns, test-driven development, asynchronous request handling)
• You have proven experience in leading and building customer facing responsive single page web applications and mid-to-large-scale JavaScript or TypeScript projects
• You have experience working with the latest JavaScript (es6+) and at least one modern JS framework like React or Vue.js and the associated testing framework.
• You have experience using build tools like Webpack or Parcel and you are familiar with the node/npm/yarn eco-system. Experience with Nuxt.js/SSR, Typescript, Cypress, Playwright and monorepos is a plus
• You have been working closely with UX designers (ideally using design systems) and have deep knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, animations, and UX/UI principles
• You are a team player with strong verbal and written communication skills
• E-commerce background is preferred, and experience with Shopify is a big plus
• You have experience working within CI/CD systems and understand the value in automating tests and deployments
• You have a strong understanding of caching and CDN best practices to ensure a stable environment for our customers
• You have experience delivering frontend features that comply with the latest Accessibility standards
• Familiarity with GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes is a big plus

Tecovas was born out of a love for cowboy boots, their time-honored craftsmanship, rich materials that last, and traditional styling that always looks good. Each pair of Tecovas boots is crafted by hand in over 200 steps. It’s not the easiest or cheapest method, but we’re committed to classic construction techniques that stand the test of time.
