Sr Intellectual Property Counsel

This role is Hybrid, in office 30 business days per quarter, at our Belmont, CA headquarters.

We are looking for an IP Counsel with a minimum of 4 years of experience in developing growth and managing day to day progress of IP portfolios. Primary responsibilities will include supporting RingCentral in implementation of its global IP strategy, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, management of trademarks portfolio, supporting IP litigation, portfolio acquisition and licensing, and supporting cross-functional teams on Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) projects, IP transactions and due diligence projects.
This role will report directly to the VP, Intellectual Property. This position requires a high level of self-sufficiency, great judgment and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal business units and external counsel
• Draft and prosecute patent applications, including direct practice before the USPTO
• Mine inventions and assist inventors with preparation and submission of invention disclosures
• Partner with internal stakeholders to review invention disclosures and assess patentability
• Participate and present invention review summaries at Patent Committee meetings
• Assist the Legal Department and other business units with IP-related matters
• Conduct portfolio analysis and claim charting for litigation, acquisition, or licensing projects
• Assist with open-source analysis and audits for product, M&A, and licensing initiatives
• Manage and develop the trademark and domain name portfolios
• Collaborate with the Finance team to support invoicing and budgeting for the IP Department

Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor of Science in EE, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or math
• At least 4 years of experience as a patent attorney
• Registered in the USPTO
• Experience with USPTO's PAIR platform and filing procedures
• A mix of law firm and corporate experience is preferred

For California, the compensation range for this position is between $170,000 and $189,000 base salary for full-time employees, in addition to eligibility for variable pay and benefits. The salary may vary depending on your location, skills, and experience.
