Sr Investment Accountant - External Reporting

This role is responsible for the preparation of GAAP financial statements, including SEC reporting and management reporting for the Nuveen Global Cities REIT. The Senior Accountant ensures that investment accounting policies and procedures are correctly applied to financial transactions. Under minimal supervision, this job works directly with asset management, portfolio management, acquisition/disposition teams and service providers

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Prepares timely and accurate work papers and supporting schedules to satisfy all accounting requirements for internal and external audits.
• Assist in the preparation of SEC filing documents, such as the Form 10-K, 10-Q and S-1.
• Reviews financial information to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
• Responds to frequent ad hoc financial inquiries into the monthly and quarterly reports, adding value by providing management insight into the activities of the underlying properties.
• Converts modified cash basis accounting information provided by third party management firms to accrual basis to facilitate preparation of fair value GAAP basis financial statements.
• Provides guidance to junior team members regarding issues that require more advanced knowledge and experience.
• Collaborate with business partners, such as legal, product management, accounting policy, and portfolio management, to ensure accurate disclosure of information within the SEC filings.

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years financial reporting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years financial reporting experience
• University degree in Accounting or Finance
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Public accounting experience
• 2+ years of SEC reporting experience
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP
• Experience in the real estate or investment accounting field
• Experience interacting with internal and external auditors
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and major reporting systems, such as Yardi and Workiva
• Exceptional communication and writing skills
• Ability to identify areas of improvement and implement necessary enhancements

Base Pay Range: $70,500/yr. - $117,500/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
