As the Sr IT DevOps System Engineer, you will work with the team to design, configure, deploy, maintain, and support our comprehensive enterprise system infrastructure (here and in the cloud). A DevOps System Engineer works with Abiomed developers and engineers to oversee the code releases, combining an understanding of both engineering and coding, creating, and implementing systems software to analyzing data to improve existing ones, and increases productivity in the workplace. They understand the software development lifecycle and have a clear understanding of various automation tools for developing digital pipelines (CI/CD pipelines).
Your work will encompass the regular care and maintenance of systems, user and business level support in their operation, and project work for new initiatives. You will need to ensure reliability in the servers & storage systems, build and maintain cloud environments, with appropriate level of proper security configuration and access control, and operational compliance with business standards. You will complete your work responsibilities in tight partnership with other IT colleagues and business stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities:
- Building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure
- Testing and examining code written by others and analyzing results
- Planning out projects and being involved in project management decisions
- Analyze problems, access systems health/life cycle, monitor performance, recommend solutions, products, and technologies to meet business objectives & requirements
- Actively protect Abiomed's information technology assets and infrastructure from external or internal threats and ensure compliance with policies and procedures including regulatory requirements regarding information access, security, and privacy
- Ensure that systems adhere to a regular maintenance schedule, patched, and maintained at an appropriate application service level
- Manage new project initiatives with full lifecycle (design, testing, implementation, and day one support) focusing on the technical implementation, support requirements, and most importantly frictionless end user experience. Must be able to prioritize and manage both project and daily workflow responsibilities
- Assist the end-user, other IT professionals, and external customers in server and security support requests
- Recommend server and configuration best practices to achieve stated business objectives, advise on risk assumptions for any deviations from standards, and provide alternatives to achieve desired end results
- Assist in incident response for any breaches, intrusions, or theft
- Evaluate and perform planning, testing, and implementation of software and hardware upgrades
- Prioritizing and managing both project and daily workflow responsibilities
- Maintain system documentation and configuration data for operating, regulatory, and audit purposes
- Adhere to proper process and change management requirements
- Collaboratively work with a global IT team and partner with external vendors for support of both internal, external, cloud, and hosted systems
- Working to support corporate systems and work with DevOps/Engineering groups within their environment
- Provide support assistance for the company's 7x24x365 mission critical infrastructure systems; including on-call, change window, and unplanned emergency response.
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years' experience of recent professional experience in IT DevOps System Engineer level role
- Good knowledge of Ruby or Python
- Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, Bash scripting
- Proficient with Windows Servers
- Experience with Puppet, Chef, Kubernetes and/or Docker Swarm
- Experience with DevOps and the following: Jira, Confluence, Jama, GitLab, BitBucket, Jenkins, Coverity, Momentics, and Nexus.
- Business continuity planning, data backup & disaster recovery, testing, and validation; on premise and in the cloud
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Cloud migration and technical management experience
- Experience working with vendors and strategic partners
- Clear understanding working with various business groups and translating those requirements into technical solutions with positive results
- Multitasker - can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a determined goal
- DevSecOps experience for securing the software development process, integrating security early and throughout the software development DevOps life cycle.
Preferred qualifications:
- BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Relevant professional level certifications
- Experience working in and supporting a Global business with multiple geographically dispersed offices and data centers
- Proficiency in automation of routine tasks, maintenance activities, and administration via PowerShell and other common scripting languages. Savvy in audit logging tools and analysis
- Command of fault tolerant system design and operation, including clustering and load balancing
- Outstanding customer service skills, including a passion to exceed support expectations and patience when working with non-technical users
- Demonstrated analytical, issue identification, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving abilities
- Ten plus years' experience working with DevOps and Engineering groups
- Managed services experience is a plus
