Summary:

Under the general direction of Assigned Management, acts to protect the legal interests of The Lifetime Healthcare, Inc. and its subsidiaries, affiliates, and any joint ventures (collectively, the "Corporations"). Has the authority, where necessary, to manage daily operations of the Legal Department. Acts in a lead capacity for specific legal areas using legal experience and business acumen to support a dynamic and fast-paced business environment. May manage attorney and non-attorney staff.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Serves as in-house counsel on legal matters involved in operating the organization. Provides timely and accurate advice, counsel, and strategy support for a full range of legal services.

• Serves as the Enterprise Legal and Sourcing Solutions liaison with other divisions across the Corporations to promote compliance with the law.

• Works independently to implement strategies for managing and resolving legal issues within assigned business areas and/or those internal clients. Consults with General Counsel and leadership team as needed concerning legal and policy issues.

• May manage, mentor, and develop less experienced legal staff (both attorneys and non-attorneys).

• Researches and evaluates risk factors regarding business decisions and operations. Partners with various business areas to provide clear, concise legal guidance while ensuring the business needs are considered and heard throughout the process.

• Drafts and solidifies relevant legal documentation, including correspondence with regulators or other external parties, to protect the Corporation's legal rights and business objectives.

• Participates in the development of new organizational policies, procedures, and programs.

• Coordinates with external parties on legal issues germane to the Company, including negotiating discovery and production demands, as well as settlements and/or fines.

• Manages relationships with outside counsel, engages outside counsel in a strategic manner, and manages all legal work product.

• Interprets contracts or other legal documentation to understand the impact to the business and communicates legal and business implications as needed.

• Safeguards the reputation of the Company by monitoring and counseling on compliance with the law.

• Committed to their personal growth and development by actively seeking feedback and responding with action.

• Keeps abreast of developments germane to the function by participation or attendance at seminars, workshops and professional society meetings, perusal of publications, satisfaction of CLE obligations, and as necessary, independent study.

• Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Level I

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and admission to the New York State Bar.

• Seven or more years as a practicing attorney in the health care and/or health insurance industry or relevant and equivalent legal experience. In-house experience preferred.

• Experience in a supervisory or team lead role desired.

• Extensive knowledge of state and federal law and regulation governing the areas assigned.

• Strong working knowledge of assigned areas of accountability; ability to find creative solutions to complex or novel legal issues.

• Must be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player (no job is too small or too large) and willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed.

• Superior critical thinking skills coupled with the ability to review, analyze, and make meaningful recommendations.

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels within and outside of the organization.

• Experience collaborating with and managing outside counsel.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to independently manage complex legal issues and take ownership of high-impact projects.

• Ability to establish and maintain strong cross-functional relationships within the organization's legal department and across all businesses.

• Superb organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once, with a focus on continuous process improvement.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high output environment and to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently.

• Approaches all situations with good judgment and foresight.

Level II (In addition to Level I minimum qualifications):

• Ten or more years as a practicing attorney in the health care or health insurance industries, or comparable work experience.

• A minimum of three years supervisory experience.

• Provides nuanced and creative advice to business owners regarding legal risk at all levels within the organization, experienced in navigating complex legal issues alongside senior executives within the company.

• Whether leading a team or leading the legal support of an assigned subject area, demonstrates character, experience, humility, wisdom, and discernment, creating trust and influence to drive solid decision-making. Develops and grows the talents of the individuals around them by challenging assumptions, pushing the boundaries of comfort zones, and promoting a healthy work-life balance.

• Subject matter expert in state and federal law and regulation governing the assigned areas, plus knowledge of the laws applicable to health insurance industry.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work independently and as a team lead or member, as required.

• Responsible for oversight of multiple areas of the legal team.

• Demonstrated history of working collaboratively with management and business teams to solve complex legal problems.

• Proven thought leadership with strong organizational skills and business judgment.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires traditional office work, including the regular use of a computer. Travel is necessary from time to time to other regional offices, and to hearings, etc., at which the attorney is representing the Corporations.

Salary Range:

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position's minimum qualifications, in additional to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components of the total rewards package may include participation in group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plan, wellness program, paid time away from work, and paid holidays.

Min: 112,400.00 - Max: 208,700.00
