SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Manager of Data Engineering will be accountable for the day-to-day management of our Data Engineering team. This team is responsible for the maintenance of existing and creation of new integrations to business systems. This individual will need to be knowledgeable and experienced in modern ETL practices as well as the latest related Azure technologies.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production. 
  • Function as product owner for all integrations and the data lake 
  • Manage the development of data resources and support new product launches. 
  • Serve as a primary thought leader for all business intelligence initiatives. Assist in conceptualizing and defining strategies as well as leading and coordinating efforts to operationalize concepts throughout the business.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand gaps and areas of opportunity to establish models, data sets, marts, and the related reports, dashboards, and/or models.
  • Analyze existing SQL server processes to identify gaps, opportunities and strengths. Identify and recommend solutions for business intelligence capabilities to enhance FirstKey Homes data systems.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis to find solutions for business inquiries.
  • Define and manage SLA’s for all data sets and processes running in production. 
  • Experience scaling and managing 5+ person teams. 
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers, User Experience Researchers and Software Engineers to understand data needs and deliver on those needs.

 WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Primarily working indoors, office environment. 
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens. 
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekend hours and be available for on call status. 
  • May sit for several hours at a time. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • 10+ years of data engineering and Business Intelligence experience 
  • 3+ years of experience scaling and managing 5+ person teams. 
  • Strong understanding of: Power BI, SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, GitHub, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, REST API's
  • Experience in a DevOps environment (Git, Azure Devops)  
  • Communication and leadership experience, with experience initiating and driving projects to completion.
  • Define and evolve the enterprise data architecture and best practices in areas such as standards, processes, methodologies, applications, data modeling, etc.
  • Define and maintain architecture standards and guidelines
  • Project management experience. 

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.) 
  • Must have worked within a multi-disciplined, cross-functional technical organization. 
  • Strong oral and written interpersonal skills with the proven ability to influence and achieve alignment across a range of different opinions and interests.
  • Deep Azure knowledge
  • Azure Synapse Optional

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE 

  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. 
  • Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. 
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
