ABOUT THIS POSITION
Waystar is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Senior Manager of Systems Engineering to lead our Information Technology team in developing and implementing robust systems solutions. As a Senior Manager of Systems Engineering, you will play a critical role in driving the overall technical strategy, overseeing the execution of complex engineering projects, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of innovative systems. Your strong leadership abilities, technical expertise, and business acumen will be key in guiding the team towards achieving technical excellence, operational efficiency, and business objectives.

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Infrastructure Engineering Team
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of systems engineers and architects.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Set clear objectives, assign tasks, and manage workload distribution to ensure efficient and timely project delivery.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and open communication.
- Collaborate closely with executive stakeholders, product management, and other cross-functional teams to define the technical strategy, roadmap, and goals for systems engineering initiatives.
- Drive the design, architecture, and implementation of complex systems solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability to meet business and customer requirements.
- Develop and implement engineering best practices, standards, and processes to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency across projects and teams.
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovative approaches in systems engineering, and make recommendations for their adoption to enhance product offerings and competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, resource allocation, and budget requirements, ensuring successful project delivery within constraints.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the systems engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of new technologies.
- Proactively identify and address technical risks, issues, and challenges, providing strategic solutions and contingency plans to minimize impact on project schedules and outcomes.
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, technical advancements, and strategic initiatives.
Systems Design and Development:
- Lead the design and development of complex Information Technology solutions, ensuring adherence to industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the creation of IT system architecture and design documentation, ensuring clarity, completeness, and accuracy.
- Conduct technical reviews to ensure system designs align with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
Project Management:
- Plan and manage system engineering projects, including resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential bottlenecks or issues, and take proactive measures to address them.
- Track and report on key project metrics, such as milestones, deliverables, and risks, to stakeholders and senior management.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and success criteria.
- Ensure projects are delivered within agreed-upon timelines and budget constraints while maintaining high-quality standards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Foster strong relationships and effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams and departments to ensure seamless integration and interoperability of systems.
- Present complex technical concepts and project updates to diverse audiences, including senior management, clients, and technical teams.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Do you fit our team?
- Preferred Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field. An advanced degree is preferred.
- 7-10+ years of experience in enterprise level IT environments, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical teams to achieve challenging goals and deliver exceptional results.
- Deep understanding of Information Technology engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices, with expertise in complex system design, scalability, performance optimization, and system integration.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges, identify creative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, cross-functional teams, and customers.
- Proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Scrum, JIRA) is preferred.
