Job Description

TIAA is seeking a Senior Middleware engineer well versed on Middleware products and services hosted in virtual machines, containers, and public cloud. They must have working knowledge of orchestration platforms such as Ansible, Puppet & Terraform as well as CI/CD process automation. This individual will be installing, configuring, delivering, maintaining, and supporting Middleware products in support of key business objectives. The ideal candidate will have background on products such as Oracle OBIEE and Java based commercial applications. This candidate is expected to be vigilant in their effort to identify and act on opportunities for efficiencies through automation or fundamental process improvement. They are expected to maintain strong partnership with Application development organizations to ensure Middleware solutions align to Application design strategies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Install/Deploy Middleware Technology and Platforms leveraging CI/CD Pipeline using Ansible
  • Review Middleware components for tuning opportunities that will enhance performance
  • Install and configure Java base applications on VM(s)
  • Develop and enhance automation scripts to deliver platforms more seamlessly using Ansible
  • Enhance process to remediate security vulnerabilities through Patching
  • Review and reduce automation failures through code enhancements
  • Renew Server and JKS Certificates across Middleware platforms
  • Assist developers as appropriate to troubleshoot application related issues following infrastructure change or upgrade.
  • Understand and apply security, integrating with LDAP/SSO options where appropriate and the life cycle management of middleware stack and develop procedure and plans for keeping stack up to date
  • Perform design, installation, upgradation, maintenance of a highly available middleware environment
  • Work with development and fellow integration resources to create objects and resources for current project work
  • Understand and be driven to acquire knowledge needed to implement solutions in a dynamic middleware environment
  • Work with stakeholders and engineers to define middleware architectures that meet both functional requirements and quality attributes
  • Prepare documentation of architecture and key design decisions for communication to multiple audiences including developers, management, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with development teams during implementation to help resolve technical problems and to revise architecture as needed to ensure successful delivery

  • 2+ years' experience developing automation
  • 2+ years' experience with public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure or OCI) or Certifications
  • Experience using container orchestration platforms such as Openshift, EKS or K8 native for applications and/or technology products

Preferred Skills:

  • 3+ years' experience in software development using any of the following - Ansible, Puppet, Python, GO or JSON
  • Application Design skills - Microservices, REST, JVM (Java - Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate), NodeJS
  • Hands on experience with Puppet, Docker, Ansible, NGINX, Apache,
  • Automation Testing: Automated Performance and Regression/Functional Testing
  • Devops tools - Cloudbees CI/CD Pipeline : Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, Gitlab
  • Experience: API Gateway, Service Mesh, Identity Services (Oauth/OpenID/SAML)

Base Pay Range: $104,500/yr. - $174,200/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
