SQL Server Engineer
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This role requires you to work on SQL Server and applications using TSQL and PowerShell; you will deliver solutions with speed, security, and quick turnaround to the needs of the business. A key ingredient for success in this role is a passion around automation and end-to-end understanding of the SQL Server Engine and Platform.
The development environment is SAFe Agile. Our focus is to excel at quality through a focus on automated testing, codifying operational requirements in our development (DevOps) and use of continuous integration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities for the Data Services Engineer can vary, but should include:
- Leverage 3rd party and HCHB internal tools to automate the lifecycle of SQL Server and HCHB applications - from introduction to decommission.
- Use industry best practices for code development, configuration deployment, production maintenance, and service monitoring.
- Maintaining and enhancing the performance of existing SQL Servers and databases.
- Assisting agile development teams in designing, optimizing and tuning new and existing database assets that meet HCHB's data services needs and SLO's.
- Establishing baselines and monitoring SQL Servers databases and related systems to ensure optimized performance.
- Engineering new support programs and scripts to increase data services capacity and availability for our customers.
- Performing debugging procedures on database assets and programs, identifying rout cause as well as resolving conflicts.
- Mentoring database administrators, developers and analysts and providing them with technical support.
- Documenting processes related to database design, configuration, and performance.
- Keeping abreast of developments and best practices in database services engineering.
- Develop, implement, and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL.
- Design, write, execute, high quality code to commercialize platforms using industry standard development patterns and practices.
- Optimize and transform existing code to better scale leveraging platforms for transformation.
- Write and execute on high level of unit coverage across your responsible projects/focus areas.
- Work and collaborate with Senior Developers and Senior Architects to drive code transformation (peer reviews, code reviews, SAFe planning) within the team.
- Experience with modern software development and CI/CD practices (Git/Azure DevOps/Release Mgmt.).
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 4+ years of experience as a SQL Developer or similar role
- 4+ year's development experience with relational databases (MS SQL 2014 and above)
- Develop best practices and repeatable procedures for deploying and scaling databases
- An understanding of internal architecture, performance tuning of SQL Server databases and stored procedures
- Ability to conduct data profiling, cataloging, and mapping for technical design and construction of technical data flows.
PREFERRED CAPABILITIES:
- One or more of the Microsoft Azure Role-Based Certifications (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/browse-all-certifications.aspx?certificationtype=role-based)
- Preferred degree in software engineering, computer operations.
- Development experience with Azure/Cloud technologies
- Experience working in a HIPAA/HI-TECH compliant environment preferred.
- Experience working in an Agile DevOps environment, preferring SAFe Agile.
HCHB requires all applicants to be US citizens or have a green card allowing them to work in the US without being subject to export control restrictions.
