The mission of the Data Intelligence team in the Early Clinical Development (ECD) department at Genentech is to optimize the support of clinical systems to provide high-quality clinical trial data insights and to offer data science-related consultation to the study teams. We leverage cutting-edge data science and operation data management to facilitate the study start-up planning. We develop advanced analytical data visualization and conduct predictive analysis to increase the efficiency of clinical data review and clinical operations with the ultimate goal of driving data-driven decision-making throughout the study lifecycle.
The Opportunity:
The role of Sr. Software Engineer will develop the software solutions for database infrastructure, system integration, and user interfaces in collaboration with cross-functional teams within Genentech and external partners. Support early clinical trial development life cycle efficiency via automation, data operation management, data analytics, and data visualization. Build efficient and secure data communication channels and enable data flow by adhering to F.A.I.R. (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. Your responsibilities may include:
- Day-to-day data-related support of data pipelines. Operate and deliver the data pipeline end to end, including the data analysis, transformation, CI/CD maintenance & improvements as well as deployments on different data cloud platforms based on AWS or Snowflake technology
- Design, develop, and maintain APIs to support data transfer among platforms/systems
- Collaborate with system developers to define API requirements. Ensure API security and authentication mechanisms are robust
- Analyze current programs including performance, diagnosis, and troubleshooting, and design solutions to problematic programming.
- Stay updated on data and digitalization development trends and emerging technologies. Ensure delivery of solutions based on the best data engineering practices around operational efficiencies, security, data interoperability, reliability, performance, and cost optimization
- Document the technical specifications and user requirements. Provide the training when required
- Partner with stakeholders to understand their data insight needs and offer data science and data processing solutions
- Support the preparation of datasets as well as exploration of clinical data programs by providing automation, curation, and visualization solutions
Who you are:
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science or related relevant discipline typically with more than 6 years of related industry experience for BS, or more than 4 years for MS
- Passion for clinical data engineering, data science/analysis, solving technical problems, and applying new technologies to further operation or scientific goals
- Strong proficiency in programming in Java and Python, relational database technologies. Data Science or machine learning/deep learning is a plus
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis and visualization of large datasets. Proficiency in any of the following technologies is valued: Java, Python (including libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, and Bokeh), JavaScript, Julia, Java/Scala, SQL, or R (including RShiny).
- Comfortable working in cloud and high-performance computational environments (e.g., AWS or Snowflake)
Preferred:
- Understanding the clinical trial-related data in IxRS/IRT, CTMS, Veeva, Rave, and data hub is preferred
- Background and/or experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or CRO is preferred
Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is 145,100 and 269,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
