We believe that the value of our products are maximized when we have the trust of our customers. Core to maintaining that trust is ensuring that the platforms supporting those products are available when they need them.  To that end, a new Resiliency and Disaster Recovery (RDR) team is forming with the mission to enable seamless reliability of PayPal’s products and services against any internal or external risk.  We are looking for engineers interested in getting in on the ground floor of this new startup and helping us build a great team and platform. Â
The Senior Engineer, Resiliency & DR acts as the lead Chaos Engineering software engineer for the team.  In this role, your typical day consists of building platforms and tools to automate PayPal’s resiliency testing across the entire organization, exposing results of Chaos testing to make our current resiliency posture visible to stakeholders and peers, analyzing results from unplanned large-scale chaos events to improve overall site reliability, and developing products that expose the real-time state of platforms to the operational teams that require situational awareness for traffic and incident response actions.  As the team grows you will help attract and develop strong engineering talent and engineering practices.Â
Responsibilities
- Responsible as Chaos Engineering technical owner for our team, automating our current Resiliency testing and leading the development of a Chaos Engineering platform for use by SRE and Product Development teams
- Responsible for partnering with DR Operations to enable monitoring and reporting of the current disaster recovery posture and technical readiness across the enterprise, including identifying any material gaps in readiness
- Responsible for the development of products that expose the real-time state of our platforms to the operational teams that require situational awareness for traffic and incident response actions
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Track record designing, developing, and delivering significant, complex software components as part of large-scale software services.
Strong technical background, with:
• Proficiency in designing large-scale distributed systems with high availability and observability
• Experience delivering Cloud-based solutions (ideally GCP and AWS).
• Experience with experimentation, monitoring, and reporting tools and best practices.
• Experience with Chaos Engineering (practical or theory) is a major plus.
• Experience in software release lifecycle with modern distributed version, including CI/CD.
• Great analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong influencer and strong communicator, both written and spoken.
