Sr Systems Engineer

Job Description

Job Summary:

Implements, configures, and works with others in the design of complex systems for internal and external customers. Assists in performing analysis on existing systems as well as system maintenance. Determines system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves program support deficiencies. Develops and recommends corrective actions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides production centric architectural and operational oversight for the development of new or enhanced services and/or products.
• Engineers, configures, and assists in the architecting of complex technical solutions for applications/systems implementations and upgrades based on specific business requirements. Solutions may be new, existing, in-house, third party or a combination.
• Researches and evaluates new technologies and software products to determine feasibility and desirability of incorporating their capabilities within the company's products. Assists in the formulation and execution of test plans for Proof of Concepts.
• Performs day-to-day and complex system administration and monitoring for assigned systems, working proactively to prevent future incidents and automate repeatable tasks
• Works with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve technical system problems in a timely manner with a primary focus on complex problems.
• Provide second level support for batch processes, as escalated by Operations team
• Work with project teams to facilitate testing and support of new projects
• Supports development, QA and product teams by providing high-level analysis and AOD environment-based design reviews, performance, scalability and benchmark test guidance, and subject matter expertise in technology and design.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• BS/BA (foreign equivalent acceptable) in computer science, computer engineering, instrumentation engineering or a related field and 5 years' responsible experience in the specialty or an IT-related occupation including the following specific experience and knowledge:

2 Years' Experience with:

• Automation: Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform and scripting languages like Shell, Perl, and Python
• Operating Systems: Linux (RHEL), Solaris, Windows Server;
• Applications: Apache Kafka, ActiveMQ, IBI WebFocus, ETL (Talend);
• Web Servers: Windows IIS, Apache Tomcat, Actuate and IBM IHS;
• Monitoring Tools: Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, and EFK/ELK; and

1 year experience with:

• Containerization: OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, and other containerized applications
• Source Control: Git, Bitbucket, Sourcetree and Nexus;
• Database Technologies: MS SQL, Oracle, GoldenGate, Cassandra

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required for the job:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Cloud Experience required
• 5+ years of technical experience in product architecture and/or production IT environments.
• Previous experience in designing and/or implementing systems with a focus on scalability and high availability
• Experience with configuring and troubleshooting development and production environments
• Experience with database technologies, particularly SQL Server and/or Oracle
• Experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, Perl, Ansible, Bash, or PowerShell
• Understanding of network protocols: SSL/TLS, SFTP, DNS, NTP and TCP/IP
• Strong documentation skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience preferred for the job:

• Previous experience with the Financial or Payments Industry and related compliance activities
• Knowledge of load balancing and content switching
• Understanding and experience of enterprise level storage and virtualisation technology
• Project Management skills in a technical setting preferred
• Cloud, Cisco and/or Linux certifications preferred

Work Environment:

• Standard work environment
• Majority of time spent on PC (Phys. Req.)
• Weekend and off-hours support required (On-Call Rotation)
