Sr Technical Accountant
Job Description
The Senior Technical Accountant is a key member of the Financial Reporting team responsible for the preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. The Senior Technical Accountant is responsible for accounting for the post-acquisition activity of controlling (Consolidation) and non-controlling (Equity method) investments and other complex accounting activities (Foreign Currency). The Senior Technical Accountant provides technical accounting expertise and assists with the implementation of US GAAP accounting standards and internal financial controls, and with the creation of internal accounting policies and procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting for Complex Transactions:
Work collaboratively with other finance team members to report accurate and timely results
Specific monthly end responsibilities include the preparation of the:
- Earned profit-sharing estimate and true up
- Unearned profit-sharing estimate and true up
- CPI refund liability estimate and true up
- Intangibles amortization journal entries
- Lease accounting journal entries
- State and federal income tax estimate
- Carrier statement reconciliation and trend analysis
- Reconciliation of general ledger activity to other various accounting systems
- Executive dashboard creation
- Disseminate financial reports and dashboards internally and externally
- Maintain corporate depository reporting and access provisioning
- Answer accounting and financial questions from internal and external constituents
- Create ad hoc reports as needed
Specific quarterly responsibilities include the:
- Quarterly management to GAAP reconciliation
- Fixed assets roll forward
- Request for eliminations
- Quarterly state and federal income tax true up
- Create ad hoc reports as needed
Technical Accounting Research and Documentation:
- Monitors and evaluates the impact of new accounting guidance to the organization and presents findings and recommendations to the Director of Financial Reporting, VP, Finance Operations, and CFO
- Works in partnership with internal contacts to implement new accounting guidance into financial reporting processes and the internal control environment
- Interface with external auditors for periodic financial reviews controls testing, and other inquiries
- Assist with the preparation of audit schedules to support the financials and footnote disclosures
- Manage the delegation and timeliness of audit support requested by the auditors
- FRCC controls testing and documentation
- Develop and maintain transaction process and controls documentation as needed
- Assist with the creation of internal memorandums, accounting policies, and procedures.
- Provides consultation and technical accounting support for organizational projects
- Participate in other special, strategic, and financial planning projects as assigned
Consolidation and Equity Investment Accounting:
- Assist in creating and developing efficiencies within the consolidation process
- Consolidation and intercompany elimination activities
- Equity Investment accounting non-controlling interest activities
- Assist/review subsidiary accounting, including their consolidations and foreign currency translations
- Assist the subsidiary with accounting for the quarterly tax distributions
- Assist the subsidiary with accounting for the reinsurance profit-sharing
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications & KSA):
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree preferred
- 3-4 years of directly related work experience required
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) License required
- Experience in public accounting required
