The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Corporate Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI is the site where the first H-D factory - a wooden shed - was built in 1903 in the backyard of the William C. Davidson family home. Join our team as a Sr Technical Designer (hybrid).

The Senior Technical Designer is accountable for creating and maintaining technical specification packages for each product within the product categories and is responsible for driving the development, engineering, fit execution and specifications for innovative, technologically advanced products of the highest level. Proactively manages the key results areas and job duties while adhering and communicating the calendar timelines to the cross functional team and key stakeholders. Schedules, leads, and directs fit sessions when reviewing products by evaluating against the Fit Architecture and market analysis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and experience in technical design, pattern making and fit
  • Solves problems related to specifications, construction, size grading, labeling, and quality by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience and judgement
  • Responsible for timely approvals of all samples and addressing technical issues and errors from garment evaluations and guide recommendations for improvements including pattern adjustments
  • Manages moderate to high level technical development of assigned styles from design concept through to production-ready hand-off, ensuring both fit and technical engineering meets or exceeds expectation and supports other mid and associate TD's in their roles
  • Collaborate across the TD department on product and projects alignment
  • Proposes ways to maximize efficiencies and is the team's source of knowledge on construction and fit
  • Work with the Fit Council to ensure all products within assigned category are aligned to HD fit standards and guidelines
  • Consistent execution of fit intent and fit consistency with support from Fit Council through clear analysis, pattern corrections, visual adjustments, communication and use of block Patterns
  • Proposes new ways to maximize efficiencies and supports mid and associate level TD's working across TD teams
  • Works collaboratively with cross functional team to track the development schedule of all products to endure a timely completion following the pre-determined product development calendar
  • Partners with Designers to understand fit intent and aesthetic ensuring translation into proto samples
  • Ensures execution of fit intent and fit consistency through clear analysis, documentation, communication, adherence to fit standards, and use of block patterns
  • Develops products, recommends materials, and construction techniques that meet design expectations and engineer the product to pre-determined gross margin targets, FOB including pre-cost estimates, first costs through to final cost
  • Schedule and lead sample fit meetings while also supporting the Associate and Mid TD's when needed
  • Identifies and assists in the development of department guidelines and standards to ensure operational excellence and consistency across teams
  • Provide insight and guidance to regional sourcing and technical team leads and collaborate on construction, production or cost engineering solutions
  • Identify and leads special project, process or calendar optimization with minimal supervision
  • Mentor and coach mid and associate technical designers
Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Education Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in apparel fashion, product development, manufacturing, or comparable job epxiernece
Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of technical design, pattern making, and fit, with strong knowledge of key business drivers such as quality and fit standards
  • Solid foundation in apparel construction, strong working knowledge in design, development, research, materials, technical design, and manufacturing in the apparel industry
  • Experience in working with and traveling independently to offshore vendors
  • Will have access to further on-the-job training for Browzwear
  • Experience in Pattern CAD software such as Gerber, Optitex, V-stitcher
  • Experience with PLM/PDM systems
  • Expert in Bill of Materials, Specs, Tech Packs

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
