Sr. Accountant - Portsmouth, NH (Hybrid)

Job Overview

The Sr. Accountant is responsible for inventory valuation and product costing, capital expenditure management, project accounting, and supporting the business to analyze its actual costs against plan to identify root causes for variances.

A Day In The Life

• Responsible for monitoring inventories (component materials, rework, and finished goods) to ensure their accuracy.
• Activities include verifying physical counts, analyzing cycle count adjustments, research of count variances, reconciling perpetual records to the general ledger.
• Responsible to work with Operations to ensure proper product set-up (for standard costs) for new or existing items.
• Monitor updates to existing products as necessary.
• Responsible for maintaining and preparing standard cost estimates.
• Prepare analysis of product costs, purchase price variances, freight charges.
• Prepare analysis of warranty and RMA claims.
• Manage capital expense programs, working with project managers to understand actual costs versus budget and anticipate potential cost overruns.
• Perform month-end close routines, including preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory perpetual records, and preparing account reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly margin and expense variance analysis; support the controllers to prepare financial cost analysis.
• Analyze financial transactions for errors or deficiencies, takes action to resolve / correct disconnects, and implements improvements to prevent recurrences.
• Support project accounting reporting and analysis by ensuring proper set-up in the ERP system and monitoring transactions to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
• Special projects as assigned.

Required:

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting
• A minimum of 5 year experience
• Large manufacturing experience preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge of SAP preferred
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Self-starter who can work independently and execute projects effectively
• Able to work hands on within the various departments of the organization and communicate effectively up the chain of command
