Position Summary

Senior Archive Management Specialistis responsible for assisting in processes that facilitate the smooth operation of the company-wide Media Archive. This includes implementing library science principles, acquiring skills to use custom computer software, cataloging and making accessible the various assets that are critical resources for on-air, digital and streaming products, and can be retrieved from the Content Media Archive when needed. Works under general supervision, but exercises individual judgment in daily activities, also working with the Content Engineering team. This role involves viewing, logging and indexing footage to be archived in the Content Asset Management system (CAM), as well as performing searches of archived video as appropriate. Additionally, maintaining the database for greater metadata efficiency and consistency, assisting with circulation activities, and providing other library support as required.

Duties/Position Responsibilities:

  • View and log accurate descriptions of media in CAM systems concentrating on video that can support customers request for on air and online.
  • Responsible for performing processes regarding retrieval of media and media records from production server or archive. Evaluating video submitted by storm chasers or stringers for possible acquisition/license upon receipt.
  • Perform searches of the Library Management Systems, Strawberry, Dalet and Kumulate systems to provide customers with appropriate video that can be used to create quality on-air promotions, on-air branding elements, programming, marketing and sales presentations, products and other TWC initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Licensing and Copyright Administrator (legal and newsdesk) in responding to outside requests for video, including uploading approved video to Sony Ci platform for retrieval by production partners or third parties.
  • Attend and participate in staff and team meetings, and provide input that will increase the effectiveness of the Media Archive, metadata, and facilitate the delivery of optimum Library services.
  • Serves as main liaison between the Media Archive and CAM Support and Broadcast Engineering on issues, solutions, upgrades and specification of all production workflow and processes.
  • Duties include educating personnel on Library media management, archive and retrieval workflows, methods required to search system assets, or procedures to remove media from the production server or archives.
  • Meets regularly with the Media Archive Specialist team to review processes, identify challenges and opportunities and lead the response to these challenges and opportunities.
  • Responsible for monitoring, compiling, and documenting Media Archive progress and statistics via charts or spreadsheet reports, updated at least monthly, showing the number of assets ingested, logged, or deleted, searches fulfilled, and other activities as needed.
  • Supervisory-level skills required in day-to-day operations to execute best practices and situational training of peers.
  • Prepare circulation and logging reports, charts or other documents as appropriate, to reconcile, track or organize data.
  • Provide accurate, trackable statistics regarding Media Archive activity for the most recent 12-month period.
  • Provides Legal with a list of Georgia-produced shows for tax credits 3 times annually.
  • Maintain primary Library asset forms.
  • Directly ingest video from tape to Dalet (content management system) from Library, adding all metadata associated with each ingested video.
  • Work directly with Longform producers, both in-house and external partners, to provide appropriate footage for use in longform shows, paying particular attention to footage rights and clearance issues.
  • Coordinates rights management and associated metadata fields for DRM integration with groups across Allen Media Group (e.g., Entertainment Studios, Allen Media Digital, comedy.tv, sports.tv and their primary archives to keep data consistent and up to date.
  • Team/Skill building with Contract/Level 1, 2, 3 personnel and contractors.
  • Digitizing video tape footage into digital files.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Communications degree with a media production background is preferred. Will consider Library science and Info Science degrees as well.
  • 5-10 years related experience in media and/or media archive positions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prefer knowledge in taxonomy, data analysis and complex data relationships surrounding metadata and databases.
  • Effective verbal communication on a variety of company hierarchy levels.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Good understanding of digital production and accepted newsroom terminology.
  • Strong Team skills: listening, initiative, and follow through.
  • Ability to recognize audio and video issues in feeds and possessing experience in steps for corrective measures.
  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of Social Media utilities and web-based media sites.
  • Knowledge of videotape formats (going back to BETA), camera shot terminology, and production activities
  • Strong aptitude for computer functions and data entry.
  • Must type at least 50 wpm accurately.
  • Excellent writing, grammar and spelling skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to create research guides, reports and documentation.
  • Understand collection development processes.
  • Knowledgeable of customer needs and strong customer service orientation.
  • Be sensitive to the legal intricacies of Library assets as they relate to different business units within one organization.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business non-editing applications.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be customer-focused and a team player eager to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Amenable to working extended hours when deemed necessary to the business of The Weather Channel (i.e. hurricanes) up to, and including, 24/7 coverage.
  • Must have physical agility for bending and stretching to shelve videotapes and carrying videotapes in baskets and/or boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Able to evaluate the quality of shots and the condition of footage.
  • Be familiar with library systems and procedures.
  • Sensitive to copyright issues involved with the Library's assets.
  • Ability to write descriptive, clear and helpful freeform text and keywords
  • Familiar with editing/dubbing equipment for fast turn-around.
