Job Description
Weâre seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel, Employment thatâs highly organized, execution oriented, and business-minded to lead our labor and employment law team. In this role, youâll partner with our People Team and operational business teams to advise on a variety of employment matters. We look for nimble go-getters that can recalibrate quickly in a rapidly changing environment. The ideal candidate will have deep employment law knowledge across a variety of jurisdictions, clearly articulate legal concepts to variety of audiences/stakeholders, bring a creative and open-minded approach to industry innovation, feel comfortable stepping outside historical expertise, enjoy building, managing and developing a team of labor & employment legal professionals, and will be an enthusiastic team player.Â
Role Responsibilities:- Provide advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of employment law issues, including: recruiting, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, privacy, contingent workforce issues, and immigration
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and manage projects with a team-oriented approach
- Evaluate employment practices, policies, and processes to assess and execute priorities, and ensure compliance
- Draft and review employment-related agreements and templates
- Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries
- Conduct audits, classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts
- Assist in managing outside counsel on labor and employment matters
- Assist in developing and conducting training and education programs for employees, managers, and the People team
- JD from an accredited law school, and member of the Bar (in good standing) in the state in which you will work (or eligible to register as a Registered In-House Counsel)Â Preference for candidates licensed in CA or AZ.
- 12+ years employment experience in a major law firm, an in-house legal department, or a combination of both; start-up and/or emerging growth company experience is a plus
- Strong preference for prior experience with advising on California employment law mattersÂ
- Experience managing and building a team
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a growing legal team and cross-functionally with members at all levels of the organization
- Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented attitude, and superior attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate risk in light of business and practical considerations and make clear recommendations
- Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to solving problems and developing creative processes - you see a problem or issue, you attack it head-on
Remote roles in the US are available in all states EXCEPT Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, or any US Territories.
For CO Residents Only, and in accordance with C.R.S. Sec. 8-5-101 et seq., the estimated base salary range for this role is $194,000 - $320,000 per year. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position in question based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. For questions about this, our pay philosophy, and other available benefits, please speak to the recruiter if you decide to apply for the role and are selected for an interview.Â
For New York City Residents Only, and in accordance with the New York City Human Rights Law (Administrative Code of City of NY §8-107), the estimated base salary range for this role is $228,000 - $376,000 per year. This range represents the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
