Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. What we do:

The Sr. Autonomy Engineer for GNC/Motion Planning will have various responsibilities, including developing planner behavior and trajectories while working with components that incorporate human guidance or input into robot execution. They will also coordinate the design of outer loop control and guidance algorithms for autopilot capabilities and extend the associated logic to autonomy functions. This role requires a multidisciplinary approach, exposing the engineer to safety-critical system engineering, planning, control, simulation, and embedded computing.

This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.

What you can do:

  • Develop systems requirements for autopilot/flight director systems, including system performance, interfaces, architecture, and algorithm
  • Research and prototype algorithms and control laws for autopilot and guidance systems on an eVTOL vehicle
  • Develop and prototype trajectory generators and motion planners for use cases such as obstacle avoidance
  • Perform ride quality and handling qualities analysis for designed autopilot features
  • Conduct simulations and real-world testing to validate the effectiveness of algorithms
  • Create detailed documentation of algorithms, methodologies, and processes related to planning
  • Partner with PMO organization to implement build plan
  • Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in engineering (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow-up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office Suite

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Experience with certifiable algorithm standards such as ARP-4574A and DO-178C preferred
  • Proficiency in languages such as Python and/or C++ preferred
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink to model dynamics systems and to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data preferred
  • Familiarity with autonomy algorithms for driving control laws, such as Sense and Avoid and Autonomous Taxi/Takeoff and Landing preferred
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and standard processes for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, and testing preferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:

$166,400—$232,960 USD
