Our Risk Management Services team is an integral part of our organization. We develop relationships with our customers and provide subject matter expertise to help reduce their exposure to risk. Through collaboration we share our knowledge and expertise across Nationwide to enhance our insurance lines and their market position.

As the Sr AVP, you'll be responsible for leading Risk Management Services for Nationwide Agribusiness. You'll lead the establishment of strategies and initiatives to assure we meet future industry product, programs, and risk needs of large Agribusiness Commercial Customers. You will be accountable for the quality and results of Commercial Ag and Farm business through the identification of hazards, evaluation of insurance products, consultation with underwriting on insurability of the risk, and consultation with clients on risk improvement opportunities.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads the development of distinctive strategies to achieve breakthrough competitive advantage in the areas of Alternative Risk solutions for Ag Clients who retain large portions of the risk. Translates strategies into plans and specific objectives that can be executed and aligned with actionable processes for improvement while taking advantage of changing trends in Agribusiness that enhances our ability to stay on top of the industry and competitors.
  • Leads the planning, development, implementation and execution of the Agribusiness Risk Management operations. Leads the customer analytics driving customer/member strategies to position Nationwide Agribusiness for the future. Drives the analysis of changing industry trends to remain focused on market leadership positions. Leads the research on the agricultural industry to create and develop current and future strategies to create new risk transfer products and services based on technological advancements, changes in the industry and environment, consolidations, and sources of revenue streams.
  • Drive growth and profitability through the acquisition of new business and increased renewal retention as well as reducing expenses and mitigation of risk through the use of pricing, exposure reduction and accurate valuations.
  • Represents Nationwide Agribusiness as a CI&A team member.
  • Leads the development of Risk Management Officer/Directors on techniques or procedures to bring about desired uniformity on judgments in the following areas: risk desirability, risk management, loss reductions services, degree of exposure or hazard and risk improvement. Specialists include but not limited to Property Engineers, Fleet Experts, Certified Industrial Hygiene, Agronomist, Occupational Health Nurses, Food Safety, and Refined Fuels.
  • Directs associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. Creates an engaging environment and manages individual and cultural diversity within the Underwriting Division. Recruits and promotes workforce diversity and assesses organizational readiness.
May perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to President, NW Agribusiness. Direct reports include Risk Mgmt & Risk Control people leaders. Indirect reports include ~100 Risk Mgmt & Property Engineer professionals including Manager level leaders.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in risk management, finance, business, economics, agribusiness or other related field preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: CPCU preferred.

Experience: 10 years combination of Agribusiness, Risk Management and/or functional Commercial Insurance Industry expertise preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong understanding of the business of Agribusiness, farm and ranch on a national basis. Thorough knowledge of P&C insurance industry underwriting, claims and risk management. Understanding of the regulatory environment as it relates to Agribusiness. Must be comfortable working directly with client risk managers, CFO's, HR Professionals and Safety Directors.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
