Sr. Bioinformatics Engineer: Cumulative Data Reports

Our ImmunoID NeXT and NeXT LB platforms are enabling the next generation of immuno-oncology therapeutics and diagnostics. Located in Menlo Park, CA, we are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in bioinformatics and human genetics to join a team developing leading-edge genomics assays and analysis tools at the core of a new generation of genomics-based diagnostics for treating cancer.

Responsibilities:

• As a member of the Bioinformatics Custom Engineer team: participate in the synthesis, quality control and analysis of large data reports spanning multiple patient cohorts and clinical trials to support external customer research and development needs.
• Provide internal customers (Wet lab R&D, Operations, Process Development, etc. teams) with bioinformatics solutions including custom data analyses and visualizations.
• Perform novel analysis on DNA and RNA sequencing data, both from solid tissue and liquid biopsy samples.
• Work in close collaboration with Pipeline development, Bioinformatics Database, Reporting, and other functional teams at Personalis.
• Contribute to the on-going improvement of data report generation infrastructure and associated
  quality control procedures.
• Drive projects to completion on time by passionately executing and anticipating what needs to be done.

Qualifications:

• Strong team-oriented work ethic with open, honest, and considerate communication skills is required.
• Strong attention to detail is required.
• Expertise in Python, particularly in advanced data frame manipulations (Pandas, NumPy) is required.
• Expertise with SQL queries to extract, join and filter large data sets is required.
• Experience translating business requirements to technical implementation.
• Experience with Unix scripting using BASH is preferred.
• Excellent understanding of different assays and sequencing types (WGS vs. Exome DNA-seq,
  RNA-seq).
• Familiarity with different assays and sequencing types (WGS vs. Exome DNA-seq, RNA-seq) is preferred.
• Experience with running bioinformatics analysis pipelines, including familiarity with standard tools such as BWA, GATK, IGV, Salmon/Kallisto/RSEM, SAMtools, Picard, BEDtools, BCFtools, etc. is preferred.
• Solid foundation in molecular biology, genetics and genomics is preferred.
• Familiarity with human genomics and cancer databases (dbSNP, Cosmic, TCGA, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience with high-performance compute clusters using SGE or equivalent is a plus.
• Experience in software development best practices is a plus.
• Experience in SAS is a plus.

Education/Experience

• Minimum MSc/MA in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology or equivalent.
• Three or more years of post-degree work experience in bioinformatics.
