The Senior Counsel will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day handling of trademark and copyright matters, including portfolio management and execution of the global brand strategy for the assigned business segments.
This role can be based in our Tennessee or New Jersey locations.
What are we looking for?
- A graduate of an accredited law school and professionally qualified lawyer with 8+ years of experience, including both in a law firm and in an in-house role and demonstrated success in global trademark practice with strong brand strategy business acumen. CPG experience is a plus.
- Active legal practitioner able to handle clearance and prosecution and enforcement matters directly in country where qualified/admitted, as well as oversee related global or multi-national portfolio issues
- Experience managing is a plus.
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Senior Counsel will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day handling of trademark and copyright matters, including portfolio management and execution of the global brand strategy for the assigned business segment, with the goal of achieving required MP related business results for each
- Provides support to the MP-AGC to ensure execution of global and related regional/local market appropriate business segment strategies
- Collaborates with team members to ensure global and regional/local market appropriate strategies are executed
- Works closely with newly-created MP Operations team in particular around clearance, TM filings, artwork review and renewals
- Handles directly and/or assigns to team member and/or to local country counsels, and then manages: day-to-day counseling, trademark clearance availability, filing strategy, enforcement strategy such as oppositions and cancellations, cease & desist letters, litigation and settlements.
- Participates in and oversees local country counsels
- Uses best practices and knowledge of internal and external business issues to deliver on strategies
- Senior Counsel understands the business and understands how the MP Operations team and trademark segment team integrate with other cross-functional partners to achieve objectives
