Job Description

The role of the Sr. Customer Analyst is to analyze customers' web and in-store behavior, as well as generate & distribute insights, analysis and reports across the company. This person will work with leaders to assist in structuring analyses to identify high-value business opportunities, build out project plans to address these opportunities and lead programs through to completion. The role will require a deep grasp of information analysis and delivery of data analysis from a variety of sources with a strong emphasis on providing actionable & strategic insights, based on a clear understanding of business objectives. The Sr. Analyst will suggest innovative ways to improve reporting and processes and use data to drive better marketing decisions in ecommerce and brick-and-mortar stores. The candidate will also use knowledge of databases and statistical modeling as well as analysis and understanding of customer behavior to help create strategies that improve Belk's ability to provide CRM support for the Omnichannel customer. A combination of strong business acumen with solid technical, problem solving, communications, and executive presentation and influencing skills are critical.

  • Lead various ad-hoc requests for customer insights from start to finish by interpreting the business needs of the request, translating those needs into time efficient analysis planning, presenting insights in a consumable fashion and influencing leadership to action based on the findings.
  • Be the subject matter expert on current and future CRM capabilities to help facilitate omnichannel and personalization initiatives for our marketing partners.
  • Leads the definition and scope of various elements of the Customer Database as well as being the key subject matter expert for Belk's customer Data Platform (CDP).
  • Leverages statistical software to build predictive models.
  • Provides thought leadership on best practices related to in-store and e-commerce measurement and testing, customer profile elements, and database models.
  • Prioritizes requests and efforts that provide proactive insights and identifying areas in which analytics efforts can add the most value.
  • Manage internal partners within our marketing and IT departments as well as the outside vendors that provide our CRM database and marketing services to provide cost-effective, high quality program execution.
  • Work under minimal supervision and exercise discretion and independent judgement in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Build and maintain relationships with analytic groups and other cross-functional teams within Belk to improve management of business strategies. Periodically serves as strategy task force leader.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of four years with proven and progressive marketing, customer, or database analytics experience or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, economics, math, statistics or related field
  • Two years of experience using statistical software to build predictive models (regression, k-means clustering), and SQL

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in business, computer science, economics, math, statistics or related field
  • Four years of experience within large, complex, relational databases
  • Experience within the Retail space
  • Experience with CRM analysis
  • Experience using R, Python, SAS or other statistical software
  • Experience with design, execution, and measurement of A/B and multivariate testing

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven quantitative, organizational, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Experience using in-database analytics, SQL, or similar programming languages to retrieve, merge, and hygiene data from multiple sources or platforms
  • Experience using a Business Intelligence (BI) tool (for example, Tableau, Alteryx, SAS or Cognos) to create a report to specifications
  • Exemplary communication skills and exceptional collaboration and influencing skills, to include CXO-level engagement and presentation
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent tasks and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally to deliver results and influence action
