About The Role
As a Data Operations Engineer you will work on supporting the data engineering and BI teams ensuring the data pipelines are working correctly and that our analytical data platforms are operating efficiently. You’ll ensure our PostgreSQL databases are operating reliably and can scale to meet ongoing business needs. You’ll monitor the health of our systems and take proactive measures to ensure our data platforms are operational. You’ll be the first line of contact for analytical and relational database questions and will triage and resolve issues as they arrive.
What You'll Do
- Assess the ongoing performance and usage of BI tools, analytical databases and tools
- Monitor the performance of relational databases
- Take steps to proactively tune database instances for optimal performance
- Triage and resolve database issues
- Refactor existing frameworks to deliver data internally and externally to stakeholders
- Develop and maintain ETL transformation code
- Create and deactivate accounts, expand privileges when appropriate
- Perform database instance upgrades
- Archive data from systems when needed
- Keep up data security procedures and guidelines
- Identify and remove unused objects
What We Look For
Â
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience
- Experience using cloud analytics platforms and BI tools
- Experience managing cloud relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred
- Ability to run explain plan statements and understand when indexes can help performance
- Experience work with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Excellent SQL experience with working through complex queries
- Willingness to be on a on-call rotation
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is desired, and ambiguity is the norm
- Python language experience preferred
