Sr. Director, Data

Primary Function:

The Senior Director, Data at Zoro is a transformative role at the forefront of driving our digital product innovation through advanced data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) capabilities. As a pivotal member of the Technology Leadership team, you'll be responsible for spearheading the development of cutting-edge data products and scientific solutions that inform strategic decision-making and operational excellence across the company. Reporting directly to the CTO, this role is integral to Zoro's mission of leveraging data to create unparalleled value for our customers and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Lead and inspire a high-performing team in the development of innovative data science, AI, and ML products and projects, aligning with Zoro's strategic objectives.
• Drive the evolution of our digital product landscape, integrating advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and AI/ML solutions to enhance customer experiences and business outcomes.
• Champion a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity within the team, fostering an environment where diverse ideas and approaches are encouraged and valued.
• Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and business units to define and execute a data-driven roadmap that supports Zoro's purpose.
• Partner to oversee the design and implementation of robust data infrastructure and platforms that enable scalable, efficient, and secure data operations.
• Act as a thought leader in the data community, staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data science, AI/ML, and applying this knowledge to drive Zoro's competitive advantage.
• Ensure the integrity, availability, and accessibility of data, empowering the organization to make informed decisions based on accurate and actionable insights.
• Attract, develop, and retain top talent in the data field, creating a team capable of executing on Zoro's ambitious data strategy.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership in data science, AI/ML, with a proven track record of driving significant digital product innovations and strong foundational skills in data engineering and analytics.
• Expertise in modern data technologies and platforms (e.g., BigQuery, TensorFlow), coupled with hands-on proficiency in SQL, R, and Python for sophisticated data analysis.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to executing projects effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex data concepts to a broad audience and fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Experience in building and leading diverse, high-performing teams within a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• In-depth understanding of the Ecommerce sector, leveraging data to enhance B2C and B2B engagement, growth, and customer satisfaction.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, architecture, and the development of data structures tailored for analytics, research, and predictive modeling in an Ecommerce context.
• Strong business judgment, comfortable with ambiguity, and adept at making informed decisions swiftly by applying the “80/20” rule for problem-solving.
