The CX & Trust Engineering team is responsible for protecting our users from harmful actors and abusive behaviors. With the continuous efforts of our CX & Trust Engineering team, Upwork can provide the best user experience and create economic opportunities for people around the world.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities, scale teams, and ensure your org is effective, healthy, and set up for success by establishing clear and measurable goals
  • Aligning with CX & Trust business objectives, collaborating with business partners and cross-functional teams on delivering key result
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of frontend and backend engineers responsible for detecting and remediating policy violations, bad actors, and building proactive safety features
  • Establish, track, and report strategic and operating metrics
  • Balances long-term R&D investments with near-term execution and product delivery
  • Attract top talent, build, lead and mentor members of your team to reach their full potential
  • Cultivate a team culture of high performance, engagement, and operational excellence at scale
  • Improve system design and architecture to ensure high stability and performance of the services

What it takes to catch our eye:
  • Extensive software engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record of leading large-scale projects, preferably in the Trust and Safety discipline
  • Hands-on large-scale micro-services, backend systems, and project delivery experience
  • Expert knowledge of modern web application design, development, security, monitoring, analysis, SDLC, and CI/CD tools.
  • Strong experience with data structures, ML models
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in moderation or risk control system design and implementation
  • Experience managing large org comprising of Directors, Senior Managers, architects, and IC reporting under those leaders
  • Proven track record of influencing across the organization and leading others cross-functionally to deliver on projects and goals
  • Comfort working in a high-growth environment and balancing various priorities

The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $196,000.00 - $398,000.00. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
