Sr. Engineer, Electric Motor & BEV Simulation

The Senior Engineer, Electric Motor and BEV Simulation will be a core member of the team developing advanced motor control strategies at Tula. They will work closely with cross-functional team members on both customer and internal development programs focusing on advanced electric motor and BEV applications to meet challenging performance targets.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Develop and validate simulation models for electric motors, inverters, batteries, and BEV powertrains
• Carefully create simulation and experimental test plans to support identification of key static and dynamic characteristics of electric motor and powertrain systems
• Conduct detailed analysis of simulation and test results to draw strong conclusions about operating characteristics and to evaluate proposed algorithms with respect to stringent targets for energy efficiency, drivability and NVH
• Enhance analytical practices to improve model accuracy and/or increase execution speed
• Utilize simulation models to develop system-level optimization strategies and algorithms
• Coordinate closely with the electric motor, vehicle, and battery Test and Algorithms teams, utilizing vendors and contractors as needed
• Develop project plans and contribute to the generation of innovative ideas

Requirements

• MS in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent technical background
• Mature understanding of electric motor and BEV powertrain design principles and R&D methodology
• Strong analysis skills for predicting and verifying energy efficiency, drivability and NVH
• Demonstrated experience with CAE tools such as JMAG, Ansys Maxwell, or Motor-CAD and associated model correlation and validation methodologies
• Knowledge of electric motor and vehicle instrumentation, data acquisition and experiment design
• Systematic approach toward engineering development
• Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to influence technical direction
• Demonstrated team orientation and project management skills
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment

Salary Range: $132,000 – 195,000 + benefits and stock options (actual compensation will be determined based on experience level).
