Sr. Engineer II (Engineering Productivity)

We are looking for a Senior Engineer with a passion for SDLC and Internal Platforms to help improve the internal developer platforms across DO. Reporting directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager, this role will be responsible for defining and implementing the future workflows for developers at DO. 

This will include building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, operationalizing developer tools, and integrating with first-class internal platforms to provide a seamless experience for our developers to allow them to develop and deploy confidently.

This position will provide immense growth and learning opportunities within the Developer Productivity and Internal Platforms domain through challenging projects that include streamlining the adoption of developer tooling, software lifecycle observability, and easier integrations of teams into pre-production environments to name a few.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Rethink how developers work at DO – everything from the tools they use in their day to day all the way to the platforms that run and deploy their software
• Developing primarily with Golang but additionally utilizing Javascript/TypeScript and React to power frontend interfaces
• Implementing new services and tools to power developer workflows
• Building core libraries of GitHub Actions
• Optimizing Build Patterns with Docker/Containers
• Researching, Implement and adopting deployment patterns in Kubernetes
• Modernize workflows for software build/testing with GitHub
• Instrumenting telemetry, and building visualizations that reveal the performance and opportunities of Engineering Teams’ software lifecycle
• Building critical infrastructure and tooling required by development teams so that engineers at DO can operate, build and release software efficiently and quickly.
• Running and maintaining critical enterprise services such as GitHub Enterprise Server and GitHub Action Runners, Artifactory, and more

What We’ll Expect From You:

• Experience leading teams and helping define the vision for large scale, cross-organizational initiatives
• Experience working across an organization in driving buy-in, decisions, and coordination  for large scale, cross-organizational initiatives in line with our vision
• Experience with internal platforms, CI/CD pipelines, internal configuration management tools, Gitlab, GHE or equivalent frameworks and test infrastructure
• Passion for shipping well-engineered and tested code
• Experience working full stack, whether it’s building net-new, enhancing, or debugging
• Expertise with at least one of the following languages: Go, Perl, Ruby, Python, Java
• An appreciation for Makefiles, build systems, and Docker as helpful tools for making a great developer experience where developers can succeed
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Able to present at all levels within the organization, from new DO employees to executives
• A strong interest and obsession with building quality software focused on enabling developers to iterate on their ideas
• Passionate about being a technical lead and providing mentorship to the team
• A seasoned ability to identify and delegate meaningful growth opportunities to the team
• Genuine interest in DigitalOcean as a company and excitement to use our products in your projects (if you haven’t already!)
