In the Office of the CTO, we are focused on bringing Applied Materials innovations to new and adjacent markets. Our Engineered Optics team is creating new super thin (sub micron) optical surfaces based on nanometer-sized structures on transparent substrates (known as "metasurface based optics" or "flat optics"), which manipulate light in the deep sub wavelength domain and enable previously impossible capabilities. These components will be the most fundamental change in optics in hundreds of years and could be deployed in AR/VR devices, cameras, projectors, sensors, and a host of yet to be imagined opportunities - there is endless potential.

ThThis GPS role is primarily responsible for delivering new hardware to improve the product and conducting complicated troubleshooting of the equipment with the engineering, process, and software teams in our Engineered Optics business.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing new hardware parts/modules for PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) chambers, collaborating with Process, Engineering, Software, and Safety teams.
• Communicating process challenges with the teams and finding the hardware solution for them.
• Tracking the status of new hardware and product development, including logistics of parts delivery.
• Installing newly developed hardware in the lab chambers with the following AMAT lab protocols.
• Testing the hardware, analyzing the test result, and reporting it to the team with improvement suggestions.
• Working with the safety team to resolve any safety-related items in the product design and development phase as the highest priority.
• Handling complicated tool-related issues and finding resolutions to them.
• Conducting troubleshooting to find root causes and solutions.
• Summarizing and reporting the issues with potential root causes and explaining action plans to resolve the issues.
• Writing procedures for Best Known Methods (BKMs) to operate the new products, including Startup and Preventive maintenance (PM).

Functional Knowledge

• Vacuum system, temperature control system, plasma-related technologies, and PVD process.
• Basic knowledge of electrical schematics and mechanical drawing.

• Interpret internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services

• Lead hardware development and troubleshooting, collaborating with team members considering customer requirements, internal development timeline, and risks. P

Education:

• BS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.

Experience:

• > 2 years of hands-on experience on Endura or any AMAT systems which is using plasma.

Travel and Commuting:

• This role might have travel 10% of a working hour to suppliers, customers, and internal collaborating groups.
• This role is required to come to the office regularly.

U.S. Salary Range:

$160,000.00 - $220,000.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
