Sr. GNC Engineer
Job Description
Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth
Sr. GNC Engineer
GNC Engineers are the core of what brings our capsules and their payloads back exactly where we want them, when we want them there. As a GNC Engineer, your simulations, planning, and optimizations will directly touch every aspect of the capsule's mission from atmosphere to vacuum and back again. Real time estimation, control sequences, on-orbit maneuvers, atmospheric re-entry, and more, make this job for somebody willing to take on an incredibly difficult challenge with tons of ambiguity. The problems are hard, but the pay-off is immense.ย
If you want to have ownership of systems from start to finish, work on hard problems at an incredible pace and build a new class of space vehicles, Inversion is where you belong.ย
Responsibilities:
- Architect the GNC system through selection of sensors, actuators, algorithms, and trajectories
- Generate and perform simulation and analysis through first principles calculations, scratch written MATLAB simulations, and full system C++ and Simulink simulations
- Develop mission modes and state machines for a fault tolerant system
- Develop ADCS algorithms for on-orbit mission components
- Develop navigation, controls, and trajectory optimization algorithms for hypersonic, supersonic, and subsonic flight
- Assist flight software with implementing GNC software onto onboard systems
- Perform and direct mission planning and development of test procedures
- Support business development teams on regulatory framework, customer mission design, etc.ย
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with full mission lifecycle for the GNC system of a flight or space vehicle
- Performed high level trade studies for vehicle design
- Experience with vehicles that operate both in and out of the atmosphere (Spacecraft + Aircraft, Rocket, Re-entry Capsule, Shuttle, Spaceplane, Missile, etc.)
- Strong familiarity with and ability to develop algorithms for estimation, attitude control, and high thrust trajectory maneuvers
- Proficiency with MATLAB and familiarity with C++
- Strong mathematical background with an ability to learn quickly and effectively
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced start-up-like environment
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Masters degree or higher in aerospace, physics or related field
