As a Project Hardware Engineer for Rockwell Automation, you will have the opportunity to join a dynamic and inclusive team developing the next generation of automation control systems. In this position, you will work with a highly collaborative team tasked with end-to-end development of products that solve our customers' most critical needs. Applicants will gain exposure in all aspects of hardware product development; from sub-circuit design and architectural integration to functional analysis and ensuring our products meet all regulatory, security and safety requirements. You will be part of a team to develop our next generation industrial control products. These products include Programmable Logic Controllers, I/O Products, and Communication devices. You will play a key role in all phases of product development including requirements definition, complex circuit design for embedded systems, product verification and certification testing, and release to production. You will work on a team comprised of engineers across multiple disciplines (e.g., mechanical, ASIC/FPGA development, embedded software), project managers, product marketing, and manufacturing & quality organizations to bring our product roadmaps to life. It is dynamic, fast-paced, and requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for product development. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop technically and take on increased scope and responsibility.

You will:

  • Work on an agile team developing new products for industrial automation applications. The team is responsible for designing overall product architecture, as well as developing test requirements and executing hardware verification test plans with traceability to product requirements.
  • Perform programming, functional analysis, and hands-on troubleshooting of electronic hardware prototypes
  • Contribute to product design documentation and test reports
  • Collaborate with highly technical teammates to understand and implement core concepts of test automation and design simulation in development workflows
  • Build relationships with technical leaders and peers to grow your knowledge of the product development lifecycle

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar related technical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product development and release of electronic hardware systems.
  • Basic knowledge of C, C++, and/or Python to exercise hardware for testing.
  • Experience with electronic hardware design tools such as spice, schematic capture, PCB design, timing analysis, signal integrity and other design capture tools
  • Ability to read & understand schematics
  • Have deep knowledge of circuit theory and operation including microprocessors, digital logic devices, analog and/or DC-power conversion, programmable devices (CPLDs, FPGAs)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Experience developing electronic hardware systems that meet functional safety standards; IEC 61508 and/or SIL2/SIL3.
  • Experience with fault tolerant design, redundant design, high availability design, or avionics design for mission critical applications.
  • Ability to technically lead all aspects of hardware development.
  • Experience developing electronic hardware systems that meet product certification requirements, such as UL, CE, or IEC 61010.
  • Extended programming experience in Python, C, and/or C++ with a passion for outside-the-box thinking to leverage these tools in automated applications
  • Hands on experience with hardware test equipment, including debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, programmable logic controllers
