Sr. Industrial Engineer, Warehouse Design

The opportunity:

With the recent acquisition of Deliverr, Flexport is now able to offer merchants a centralized path to navigate the complexities of global trade from port to porch! This role, on the Industrial Engineering team, will closely interface with Network Strategy, various Operations teams, Finance, and Capacity Planning to formalize requirements and transform them into best-in-class facility designs. This is a creator's role, where you can bring your multitude of experiences to leapfrog past those hard lessons learned to design a truly efficient network!
- Design the physical network assets, including FCs, Crossdocks, Sort Centers and additional building types as the need arises
- Work with cutting edge material handling and robotic technologies
- Implement multiple projects simultaneously
- Present designs and justifications to leadershipÂ
- Create standardized processes and flexible and extensible designs that will yield the highest productivity and efficiency gains in put, pick, storage, and sortation systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in the discipline
- Proficiency using AutoCAD to design facility layouts and process flows
- Experience with automated high-speed material handling equipment, robotic systems/technologies and automated packaging technologies
- Experience in Capital project management
- Proven ownership and implementation of large engineering design projects
- Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel/Google Sheets, Gantt charts, and CAD software
- Ability to take ambiguous situations and/or problem statements and formulate clear and concise requirements, justifications and paths forward
- Experience interfacing with facility automation engineers, process engineers, machine and process operators, enterprise tool developers, and equipment and material vendors, in order to identify requirements and opportunities for data, tools, equipment and workflow automation
- A "compliance first" attitude to keep our regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport, since we operate in a heavily regulated industry.
- Ability to travel 25-75%, depending on project life cycle. Travel will be mainly domestic, but some global travel may be required
