Job Description
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Sr. Internal Auditor – Partner with the Vice President of Internal Audit to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve FirstKey Homes’ operations. The mission of FirstKey Homes Internal Audit Department is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. The Sr. Internal Auditor will assist FirstKey Homes in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Participate in the annual audit planning and risk assessment process.
- Build relationships and work with process owners to gain an understanding of their operations and underlying internal control environment.
- Evaluate current effectiveness of internal controls by reviewing risks, flow charts and policies and procedures.
- Perform financial, operational and compliance audits according to accepted professional standards that reflect an understanding of the company’s objectives, capabilities, and control requirements.
- Perform all phases of assigned audits including planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
- Prepare for internal audits by evaluating key risks in audit area, establish audit objectives and scope, develop timetables and schedules, and create or adapt audit programs.
- Communicate audit results to process owners and make professional recommendations to mitigate risk and add value.
- Challenge current processes across the company and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Perform follow-up activities as necessary to determine if appropriate corrective actions have been taken.
- Active role in maintenance and review of the company’s policies and procedures including best practices.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily working indoors, office environment.
- Some travel required.
- May sit for several hours at a time.
- Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
- Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 3-5 years’ of proven audit experience in public accounting and or internal audit in a corporate environment
- Performing all phases of assigned audits including planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
- Evaluating effectiveness of internal controlsÂ
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data from large datasets
- Working in a fast pace, high growth company
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or on track to obtain
- Yardi Voyager, or similar property management programs
- Microsoft Power BI
- Working in property management, real estate or similar industry
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Accounting - Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP), and related practices
- Internal Audit - COSO, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, (GAAS) and IIA Standards
- Technology - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), collecting, analyzing and reporting data from large datasets
