Job Description
Summary
The Sr. Investment Accountant role completes management and capital reporting for investments, assists in CECL and OTTI reporting, and prepares investments risk-based capital (RBC) data. This role will also help support the completion of surveys and other regulatory reporting.
Organization
This position reports to the Manager, Investment Accounting and works closely with an external third party investment accounting administrator and external investment managers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Completion of quarterly watchlist and analysis of securities for impairment and CECL considerations.
- Preparation of materials for Impairment Committee.
- Review securities for Purchase Credit Deterioration (PCD) considerations.
- Preparation of investments RBC data.
- Reporting on GAAP and STAT issuer and investment concentration data.
- Completion of rating agency surveys and regulatory reporting.
- Assist with other GAAP and STAT Reporting activities as needed.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and maintenance of evidence of controls. Assists in the review and maintenance of control documentation and ensures all controls are completed timely.
- Completes and or assists in the coordination of external auditor, internal audit requests, and state insurance department examinations.
- Actively seeks and proposes methods for continuing process improvements in the reporting, analysis and system functions.
- Assists on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Investment Accounting required.
- Experience developing process optimization within the boundaries of corporate infrastructure and regulatory environment
- Experience with accounting and reporting for insurance company general account investments and derivatives, valuation of investments or SOX 404 requirements is beneficial.
Preferred Experience
- CPA
- Insurance industry (Life, annuity, reinsurance)
Skills and Abilities
- Highly motivated, self-starter & team player with a high energy level; willingness to aggressively take on responsibility and hold self and others accountable
- Strong computer knowledge including working knowledge of financial based accounting packages (PAM for Investments, Clearwater and Oracle experience preferred).
- Able to work & effectively communicate with all levels of management, including executive management.
