Sr. Investment Accountant - (Mortgage)
Job Description
The Sr. Investment Accountant is responsible for performing various duties related to accounting and reporting for investments. This position is part of the Close and Analysis team within the organization’s Investment Center of Excellence structure and will be responsible for the processing, controls and analysis of the Company’s Mortgage Loan portfolio. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, enjoy collaborating with others, have the ability to challenge current processes and drive efficiencies.Â
Organization
This position reports to the Director, Investment Accounting and will work closely with third party investment accounting administrator, external investment managers and loan servicers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with third-party accounting administrator, asset manager and servicers to ensure remittances are processed on a timely basis and variances are resolved
- Generate and record journal entries as needed for month end close. Prepare or review reconciliations of accounting system, general ledger and custodian information and ensure variances are resolved
- Provide analysis of results for variance in trends and against expected results
- Assist in development of proper accounting treatment for mortgages. Prepare CECL allowance calculations and ensure impairment and allowance transactions are recorded timely and accurately
- Support internal control objectives for Investment accounting by identifying key risks, adhering to controls, documenting controls for compliance and testing, and remediating any control gaps
- Assist in the coordination of both external and internal audit requests
- Provide regular updates to investment accounting senior management keeping them well-informed of any issues, shortcomings, or accomplishments of the team
- Actively seeks and proposes methods for continuing process improvements in the reporting, analysis and system functions
- Assist in other relevant projects and ad hoc tasks as assigned Â
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance required or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in investment accounting required with emphasis on mortgage loans preferred
- Experience developing process optimization within the boundaries of corporate infrastructure and regulatory environment
- Proven history of being able to solve complex problems
Preferred Skills
- CPA
- Insurance industry (Life, annuity, reinsurance)
- Clearwater, Oracle and Essbase experience
