We are the world’s largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.

The Senior Manager of Climate Strategy and Engagement will work with internal and external stakeholders to design and carry out the company’s Sustainability strategy. They will also manage Enviva’s annual ESG reporting and net-zero implementation initiative. Support internal processes and external communication exercises to facilitate Enviva’s engagement with sustainability, climate, and ESG groups and initiatives, certification bodies, trade associations, and customers. Serve as point person for data requests from cross-functional team for external communication purposes. Assist with the development of presentations and communication materials.

This position reports to Enviva’s Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer. 

Responsibilities

  • Partner Management (40%)
    • Manage external engagement with private sector companies and associations, investors, NGOs and academics in support of Enviva’s ESG commitments, sustainability leadership, and new market development.
    • Provide subject-matter expertise and technical support for internal and external stakeholders on climate and energy policy, sustainability best practices, and reporting frameworks.
  • Sustainability and ESG Reporting (25%)
    • Oversee annual sustainability and ESG reporting processes (e.g. GHG Inventory, SASB Indices, Corporate Sustainability Report) and associated third-party verification.
    • Communicate results to internal stakeholders to assist with strategic decision-making.
    • Provide strategic advice for aligning Enviva sustainability practices and goals with reporting initiatives.
  • Sustainability Communications (25%)
    • Develop written and visual materials to support Enviva’s engagement with external sustainability, climate, and ESG groups and initiatives, certification bodies, trade associations, and customers.
    • Serve as point person for data requests from cross-functional teams for external communication purposes.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant events, news, and research associated with Enviva’s product markets, ESG initiatives, and reporting frameworks.
  • Net-Zero Implementation (10%)
    • Provide program oversight and project management for existing pipeline of net-zero projects.
    • Lead regular program cadence of evaluating projects and need, contracting, and assuring carbon reduction delivery. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry/environmental science, forest economics, sustainability science or a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of the range of technical and policy issues impacting the forest products sector (minimum 3+ years).
  • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in research, technical analysis, policy development, investor relations, ESG, or a related field.
  • Extremely strong writing, speaking and presentation skills, and equally strong interpersonal skills and strategy acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and to think creatively and strategically.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and high intensity work environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills and experience working directly with senior executives 

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart

  • Master’s degree in forestry/environmental science, forest economics, sustainability science or a related field.

Travel requirements

  • Ability to travel approximately 25-30% of the time.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily computer-based work requiring extended periods of sitting at a computer, typing, but may also include standing, walking, carrying or lifting (up to 50 lbs) in support of team tasks.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FLMA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
