General Summary

The Sr. Manager, HR - Employee Relations will provide strategic and functional HR leadership for all supported areas of the business with the primary responsibility for Employee Relations. Provides trusted counsel and leadership in partnership with business leadership to develop the desired culture and environment. With the guidance of the Director, HR this position is responsible for developing and implementing HR Strategies and initiative that support company objectives and values. Is responsible for overseeing and monitoring consistent policy application and practices, ensuring an excellent employee relations experience, and providing expertise for a wide variety of subjects encompassing state and federal laws related to employee relations including labor management, conflict resolution, performance management, and employer/employee compliance. Works closely with HR leadership, HR operations and business leaders and operations to develop comprehensive counsel that empower, support, equip, and inspire our leaders and associates to drive desired business outcomes.

The Sr. Manager, HR - Employee Relations will drive efficient processes for employee relations initiatives and work with business leadership to implement repeatable, and data driven processes based on industry best practices. This position requires a person with social poise, warmth and friendliness, a strong sense of urgency and a competitive drive to accomplish objectives by influencing the right behaviors and leadership attributes in others while building professional and sustainable business relationships across all levels in the organization. Participate and lead in development of associate culture and environment with leadership and human resources team. Develop programs, policies, and strategies to promote positive associate relations.

Primary Responsibility:

  1. Proactively assess root causes of employee relations' issues and formulate plans to remedy. Includes review and analysis of metrics such as associate relations claims, hotlines, charges, and other trends.
  2. Takes pro-active steps to address situations or initiatives that may be perceived negatively by the associates, working with business partners and leaders to enhance their abilities to recognize widespread situations and respond appropriately.
  3. Conduct investigations of associate complaints for elevated issues, including the Problem Resolution Process and Hotline submissions. Function as neutral intermediary. Prepare investigative reports, PRP and Hotline responses.
  4. Support business partners and leadership in creating an environment that remains union-free through positive associate relations by assisting in development of union free strategies and training.
  5. Works with employment law team to respond to EEOC, DOL and other legal claims. Represents the Company in mediations, depositions, and other legal processes.
  6. Educate, coach, and assist business partners with problem solving opportunities. Identify training gaps and participate in development of content and delivery of training to management.
  7. Provide advice and guidance to business partners and field HR team on associate disciplinary issues
  8. Subject matter expert that provides indirect oversight of a high performing Employee Relations team, providing coaching, feedback, development, training and support.

Education & Experience

Level of Formal Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Area of Study:

  • Human Resources, Psychology, Employment Law, Business Management

Years of Experience:

  • Minimum 10-year experience in related field

Special Certifications:

  • SHRM Certification helpful

Language Skills:

  • Extremely effective written and verbal communication of the English language

Skills and Ability:

  • Experience managing business partners relationships and strategizing collaboratively
  • Strong Leadership capabilities and a proven track record of working with all levels in the organization
  • Exceptional communication, including effective listening and excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to express thoughts in a clear and concise manner while demonstrating facts and discretion with sensitive situations.
  • Ability to dive multiple investigations to resolution and handle a large workload.
  • Unrivaled attention to detail and consistent delivery of the highest quality of work; skilled at effectively managing and prioritizing escalations or business critical situations
  • Experience in driving and leading in a change management culture and breakthrough thinking
  • Strong self-starter and independently motivated

Information Systems:

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (O365), HR systems/database and applicable Management Information Systems.

Personal Attributes:

  • Experience in positions that provided vision and leadership influence in decisions affecting successful corporate strategy
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective partnerships with all departments and levels of associates in a team-oriented environment
  • Organizational, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve disputes and observe confidentiality
  • Ability to travel (10-20%) to support the business as appropriate for assigned span of control
