Sr. Nagios Engineer
Job Description
As a Sr. Nagios Engineer, you will work closely with Echo's Infrastructure teams and within NOC Operations to ensure hybrid hosted environments are monitored and alerted on by following industry best practice. This role will be instrumental in Echo's transformation towards observability and will work closely with SRE and DevOps. As technical problems arise, you will collaborate with the Operations team to find solutions. Additionally, this role will work with the Operations Engineers to refine and improve the tools that Echo Global Logistics uses to improve operational excellence across all of Technology.
Position Overview:
As a Sr. Nagios Engineer, you will work closely with Echo's Infrastructure teams and within NOC Operations to ensure hybrid hosted environments are monitored and alerted on by following industry best practice. This role will be instrumental in Echo's transformation towards observability and will work closely with SRE and DevOps. As technical problems arise, you will collaborate with the Operations team to find solutions. Additionally, this role will work with the Operations Engineers to refine and improve the tools that Echo Global Logistics uses to improve operational excellence across all of Technology.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, deliver, and maintain engineering efforts supporting a variation of monitoring and alerting tools.
- Working with the SRE team to create scripts and deploy for system automation where applicable.
- Work closely with our Operations team.
- Troubleshoot problems and help with maintenance tasks that have not been automated.
- Assist in reducing complexity within event management so our infrastructure and application teams can recover faster from outages.
- Execute tasks as assigned by the NOC, infrastructure, and development teams.
Required Skills:
- Nagios experience
- 5-7 years in a Nagios Engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure focused role
- Passion for designing and building reliable systems and are an automation advocate - you truly believe in removing operation load with software
- Experience with programming languages (PowerShell, Ruby, Python, Java, Bash, or similar)
- Experience with deploying, supporting, and monitoring new and existing services, platforms, and application stacks
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with administrative tasks on Windows Server and Linux preferred
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, architecture, and core technologies (such as DNS, DHCP, HTTPS)
Nice to have/Familiarity with:
- Splunk
- PagerDuty
- ServiceNow ITOM
- AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail
- Open-source middleware services (such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, Elastic Search, Consul.io)
- Build, deployment, and orchestration technologies (such as SCCM, Terraform, Kubernetes, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Artifactory)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results on time with high quality
- Diagnosing complex problems, developing metrics to measure them, and implementing monitoring solutions to manage them
- Be flexible in an ever-changing environment
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to share your knowledge, teach what you know, and learn new ways of doing things from your team
- Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
