Sr. Payroll Specialist
Job Description
A Day in the Life and the Impact You'll Make:
The Sr. Payroll Specialist is responsible for full-cycle payroll processing for US and Canadian legal entities and maintaining the employee database regarding all pay-impacting earnings and deductions. This includes weekly and biweekly payroll processing for an approximate employee population of 600, managing all payroll-related transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, and maintaining the company's payroll system. This position will partner with members of the Human Resources Team and the Shared Services functions of the organization.
What You'll Do:
- Administer full cycle payroll processing, balance, and reconcile weekly/bi-weekly payroll, including calculations, income tax withholding and deductions, and preparation of final reports.
- Research, diagnose, and assist in resolutions for internal pay issues and process off-cycle payroll as needed.
- Administer reporting for HSA and 401K contribution transactions.
- Maintain payroll and timekeeping system, ensuring accurate profile setups.
- Produce custom payroll operations reporting as requested from both internal (ie. management,) and external (ie. auditors) sources.
- Review and verify quarterly and year-end multi-state and federal payroll tax reporting.
- Communicate and work with state and local tax agencies, to set up new payroll tax accounts and resolve inquiries.
- Act as the main point of contact for all payroll inquiries from internal and external partners; support and guide colleagues and teammates on procedures, guidelines, and regulations.
- Assist in special projects as needed.
What Makes a Great Candidate:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with processing full cycle payroll.
- Knowledge of UKG UltiPro is required.
- Knowledge of UKG Ready is preferred.
- US multi-state and Canadian payroll processing experience is required.
- Thorough understanding of federal, multi-state, and local payroll tax and compliance laws and registration processes.
- Ability to maintain and handle extremely sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion and security.
- Computer aptitude, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understand proper taxation of employer/employee benefits.
- Intermediate Excel experience is required.
- Ability to continually manage workflow for smooth, timely, and accurate processing.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to resolve issues and/or improve processes.
- Professionalism and skill in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals - colleagues, organization leaders and teammates in HR.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player.
- Organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and complete work dependably and consistently.
- Effectively communicate resource needs.
- Self-motivated with the ability to recognize when flexibility is needed.
- Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred
Physical Considerations:
- Ability to work in a general office environment; extended periods of computer-based work.
Travel Considerations:
- Potential for domestic travel only; estimated one week per year.
What You'll Receive for the Value You Bring:
Compensation:
The base pay for this position is$68,850 annually to $80,000 annually. Actual pay is based on several factors including market location and position-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
