Role Summary
Magna New Mobility is seeking a highly motivated Senior Perception Engineer to join the Autonomous Mobile Robotics Development group in Boston, Massachusetts. Must be a passionate and hands-on engineer, designing and developing perception solutions with classical and modern computer vision techniques. The ideal candidate is experienced with techniques including image- and lidar-based object detection and segmentation, as well approaches based on deep neural networks.
Must be comfortable working with minimal supervision to meet defined program objectives and milestones in an environment where you are given the freedom to innovate, explore new methods and solutions. Magna New Mobility offers an agile engineering and development community; one in which a candidate will be expected to bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate system objectives and identify relevant use cases to generate meaningful requirements specifications.
  • Design and implement scalable, robust, and real-time software running machine learning models for perception and autonomous vehicle operation
  • Reliably detect objects using on-vehicle cameras and lidars
  • Train, retrain and optimize models and tune performance on hardware accelerators.
  • Review literature and track industry and academic developments to select methods that fulfill the needs of our system.
  • Implement selected approaches along with providing inputs on choice of model architecture, parameters and metrics for validating system performance.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams and break work down into system components to lead negotiations of their interfaces with the other stakeholders.
  • Develop processes to own the entire life cycle of ML feature/s from training, deployment to the model release, KPIs and versioning.
  • Perform other duties, support special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Must work in an organized and orderly fashion, following modelling guidelines and/or industry best practices
  • Camera calibration (intrinsics)
  • Sensor-to-sensor extrinsic calibration
  • General computer vision/image processing

Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science
  • 5+ years in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other relevant industr y

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects; requires good time management and organizational skills to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Software programming in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with libraries such as OpenCV, PCL, etc.
  • Experience with modern deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow or Pytorch
  • Experience with object detection algorithms like YOLO or R-CNN.

Key Qualifications (Cont.)
  • Understanding of model quantization and runtime optimization tools like TensorRT, ONNX and working with ML accelerators.
  • Knowledge of sensors, including cameras, LIDAR, RADAR
  • Sensor calibration
  • Sensor fusion (early or late)
  • Object tracking
  • Issue/project management - JIRA, Agile, Scrum
  • Configuration Management / Repository - software release management, including data/parameter dictionary,
  • Highly proficient with MS Office based productivity tools incl. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.
  • Experience with the following are nice to have:
    • CUDA
    • ROS
    • Kalman filters or other forms of Bayesian filtering

Additional Information
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
  • Domestic and international travel ~10%
