Job Description

The Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) Engineer, as part of the Construction Installation Group (CIG), will engineer the front end development for projects being worked through the sales cycle. The Sr. FEED Engineer will be responsible for the development of the overall project engineering and application scope of installation used for contracting/budgeting. The Sr. FEED Engineer will also be responsible for technically supporting the overall project handover to the team executing the projects post contract.

The Sr. FEED Engineer must be capable of developing and driving team-based results through metrics to guarantee the highest technical quality of the sitting, siting and interconnection of the Bloom products in the field at the customer location. The Sr. FEED Engineer will have the ability to manage multiple projects and 3rd party EPC and designers as well as contribute individually to project design and development. The primary initiatives will be the following:

Execute an engineering/design and process approach that satisfies the product standard specifications and site requirements. Manage an engineering/design methodology that delivers predictable site costs and interconnections to satisfy the revenue goals of the company while interacting with cross functional team members to collect constructability inputs. Provide technical oversight and direction in the execution of best practices for the repeatable, reliable delivery of siting and interconnection of distributed generation projects to develop overall scope. Provide engineering/design guidance in developing company design standards and installation execution methods to best deliver the highest quality and most cost-effective customer solutions possible while maintaining industry best standard practices.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Development of site schematic designs, including but not limited to: electrical, civil, and plumbing plans and ensuring technically comprehensive siting and interconnections at customer sites based on coordination with the cross functional teams
  • Ensuring site schematic design conforms to specifications required for the implementation of Bloom Energy fuel cell systems
  • Overseeing development of site implementation standards with installations design team for regional site construction guidelines for upfront scoping and costing measures.
  • Delivery and coordination of the comprehensive site scoping package, and Support of costing and plan delivery from the FEED project manager to sales Enterprise System Engineers (ESE)
  • Delivery Assessment of site risks associated with placement or integration of Bloom Fuels cells within the customer facility/property
  • Interface with internal engineering design team to specify all site required equipment at a schematic level to define proper scope (electrical switchgear, protective relaying, etc)
  • Interface with internal and external resources to develop schematic design scope of work and site due diligence reports defining site known, un-knowns and risks
  • Interface with external costing partners / general contractors and internal resources for production and delivery of rough order of magnitude (ROM) level project drawings and scope packages used to develop budget and site planning documents and support technical questions regarding such documents.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering degree in Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent
    • 10+ years relevant experience in consulting engineering, power generation, mission critical, or fuel cell applications.
    • General understanding of electrical infrastructure for data centers and large commercial facilities
    • General knowledge of codes (NEC, NFPA), standards (Rule 21 and other interconnection standards) and regulations (city, state and federal) associated with construction of distributed generation projects
    • Ability to switch between the strategic (e.g. impact of Bloom Energy technology on customer's long-term business) and tactical (e.g. oversight of 3rd party providing electrical gear investigation)
  • Extremely professional in terms of appearance, phone manner, and group presentation skills.
  • Proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization effectively, from facilities personnel to financial leadership.
  • Ability to confidently and clearly defend technical recommendations utilizing industry standards and referencing past performance.
  • Self-starter that shows the ability to work independently and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team toward a common goal leveraging internal and external resources as necessary and to consistently achieve performance metrics for speed, quality and cost.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • MS or PE license
  • 10+ years in a customer facing engineering / support role in a technical role with a manufacturer, construction or engineering firm
  • Field experience commissioning power generation equipment
  • Basic understanding of fuel cell operation
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD & Bluebeam/PDF editing software
  • Site construction knowledge
  • Site construction cost/budget development
  • Project management of large site construction projects

$168,100.00 - $241,900.00
