Sr. Principal Systems Engineer
Job Description
We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are looking to hire a looking to hire a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join our Surgical Instruments team at Lake Forest, CA. You will be responsible for developing SysML models and performing system and subsystem architecture and requirements definition, integration and evaluation of complex medical equipment that utilizes electronics, firmware, embedded software, computer software, mechanics, optics, and fluidics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing SysML models, user needs derivation and product requirements management (including full traceability), risk management, technical planning, design reviews, verification and validation, project scheduling and budgeting.
- Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
- 7 Years of relevant experience
- Work hours: M-F, standard
- Travel Requirements: 5-10%

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Experience breaking down customer inputs into user needs, and product requirements that define functional architecture
- Experience with requirements management and tracing tools such as Polarion, PTC Integrity, or DOORS
- Experience with systems engineering methods and modeling tools utilizing SysML such as MagicDraw
- Familiarity with developing custom embedded electrical/software systems
- Comfortable with risk assessment and management processes
- Capable of generating and reviewing substantial amounts of documentation
- Functioning knowledge of IEC 60601-1 family of standards, ISO 14971, and ISO 13485
- Relevant Product Development and Engineering Experience (medical not required)
- Familiarity with developing complex, integrated, embedded systems
