I Am Abiomed | I Am Heart Recovery | Patients First!

We are looking for a highly motivated, hands-on engineer for our newest platform, a proprietary catheter and controller system that complements Abiomed's product portfolio to expand options for patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

Our team is dynamic and we are looking to add a versatile, eager-to-learn, and driven individual to own and collaborate on design initiatives. You will have a tangible impact on this new platform, the business, and ultimately improving patient care.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provide product development expertise leading system design and engineering initiatives
  • Execute across a diverse group of engineering disciplines (mechanical, human factors, systems, and test)
  • Establish design goals and specifications based on voice of customer and requirements
  • Effectively engage and mobilize a cross-functional team to address complex product development challenges and drive toward robust solutions
  • Apply and/or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts that may be new to the industry.
  • Recognize the gaps, initiate, develop, and establish infrastructure, tools, and knowledge base to propel successful product developments
  • Committed to being customer focused and responsive to unmet needs
Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (Mechanical background desired); Advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years (not including internships / co-ops) leading and executing successful Product Development projects, providing hands on technical management, preferably in medical devices
  • Team oriented. Proven teamwork skills in a cross-functional engineering environment, ability to motivate and empower team members, and set and manage expectations.
  • Experience throughout product development, including requirement definition, Human Factors (IEC 62366), design characterization, and transfer to manufacturing
  • Experience with material selection, detailed CAD design, CTF drawing creation, and hands-on prototyping
  • History of applying fundamental concepts of mechanical design and material properties to drive product development. Ideally with experience in disposable/catheter design, development, and manufacturing.
  • Experience working with outside partners for product design and manufacturing
  • Able to travel 10% of time within the US and Overseas (post - Covid restrictions)
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written) Strong problem-solving skills and experience identifying root cause
  • Execution driven, highly adaptable
  • Able to lead and manage in a rapid paced, complex environment
  • Customer-centric design, development, and engagement approach. Knowledge of cath lab and/or cardiothoracic/vascular surgical environments is a plus.
