Sr. Product Development Engineer

Aktiv Pharma Group is hiring for a Sr. Product Development Engineer. We are a fast-growing company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through a proprietary drug delivery system.

The Sr Product Development Engineer develops complex plastic mechanisms, complex plastic injection mold design concepts and fabrication-ready 3D design files and drawings. The applicant will be a Subject Matter Expert in design for injection molding, including design for manufacturing, mold flow analysis, and material selection.

The compensation range for the Sr. Product Development Engineer is $100,000 - $120,000 annually.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Acts as Subject Matter Expert for injection molding part design and material selection.
• Designs injection molded parts and mechanisms for medical devices utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
• Performs engineering analysis including tolerance analysis, stress analysis, mold flow analysis, and similar.
• Materials selection, preferably incorporating personal experience.
• Ability to optimize molding process is a plus
• Interfaces with suppliers through technical communication and design documentation to source tooling ranging from prototype tools to multi-million cycle, high cavitation tools.
• Well versed in injection molding validation processes
• Tests and inspects injection molded components for quality and workmanship.
• Prototypes alternative conceptual solutions to existing components to improve design and overall product functionality
• Documents engineering drawings and technical reports to ensure reliability and to meet regulatory standards.
• Presents designs and interfaces with all levels of the organization and external customers.
• Develops presentations and communications based on the audiences’ specific purpose.
• References quality system manuals and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other external design guides to determine and ensure appropriate engineering design
• Develops Design Inputs (specifications, risk assessments, hazard analyses) to meet device requirements.
• Documents Design Changes to provide traceability and design history of the device.
• Performs verification activities to demonstrate that the requirements have been met, including developing test procedures, sample size selection, data analysis, and reporting conclusions.
• Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.

Job Qualifications

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to consistently promote, support, work, and act in a manner in support of Aktiv Pharma Group’s mission, vision, and values.
• Strong understanding of design for injection mold manufacturability including cold and hot runner and high cavitation tools.
• Strong understanding of material selection for injection molded parts.
• Strong understanding of mold manufacturing processes and their capabilities.
• Strong understanding of engineering concepts, engineering drawings, technical documentation, and mathematical calculations.
• Knowledge of medical device design and prototyping, including the use of basic machine shop equipment, mechanical testing, stress analysis/FEA (Finite Element Analysis), mold flow analysis, and tolerance analysis.
• Excellent written and oral communication to be able to explain the process for making a choice or decision and for resolving problems.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling program.
• Ability to recognize problems and take prompt action to resolve them.
• Ability to recognize what additional information about a problem should be collected.
• Ability to distinguish between symptoms and causes of problems (root cause analysis).
• Strong skill in the use of analysis software (Excel, Mathcad, Minitab, Matlab, python, etc.) and MS Office suite is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts in resource allocations.

Education or Formal Training:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other close discipline is required.

Experience:

• A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in designing parts for injection molding with the use of CAD software is required.
• Experience working with a range of polymers. Hands-on experience with injection molding process is a plus.
• At least five years of experience in a medical device product development is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
