Sr. Project Accountant

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Senior Project Accountant is primarily responsible for project billings, project accounts payable, project closings, revenue recognition while working under the supervision of the Corporate Controller. We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, delivery quality work and meet deadlines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Work closely with all members of the regional team (including project managers, designers, superintendents, and assistant project managers)
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of project billings to owner
• Review and summarize owner contracts to understand billing and accounting requirements
• Assist the project management team in monitoring past due client collections weekly and ensuring that updates are provided to management
• Job cost accounting including preparation of owner billings, timely collection of payments, subcontractor compliance and project accounts payable
• Identify job payables that meet pay when paid and compliance criteria, prepare weekly payment request list for approval and assist with getting payment runs processed
• Handle urgent job payment requests by investigating further and responding appropriately
• Proactively determine projects that include reimbursable client billings and understand individual client requirements for such billings
• Facilitate project closeout process to close projects in accounting software in a timely manner
• Assist with strategic planning/forecasting of project financials and cash flow
• Review costs on potential projects with project teams and move costs to open projects when needed
• Sales tax filing preparation and submission – monthly, quarterly, annually
• Monthly WIP and forecast variance analysis
• Oversee project accounting team tasks to ensure work is performed accurately and timely
• Assist with project audits and other project-related audit requests
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• 3-7 years of relevant experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required
• Project accounting experience is a must
• Construction industry experience preferred
• Notary or willingness to become a notary a must
• Intermediate to advanced excel skills a must (Pivot Table and VLookups)
• The ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex issues.
• Vista by Viewpoint ERP Software experience preferred, otherwise experience with comparable ERP Software required (SAGE Timberline, Spectrum, etc.)
• Excellent organizational skills a must
• Detail oriented a must
• Team player with a willingness to support team members across the finance discipline
• Excellent listening skills and strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated success working in a highly collaborative environment

• 1 direct report

Base Salary $80,000 - 100,000/yr + discretionary bonus
