The Human Exploration and Space Flight (HESF) group serves as a technical and programmatic advisor to NASA's Human Landing System (HLS) Program and the HLS Ground Operations office. In this technical role, you will support the NASA HLS as an Avionics Computer-Human Interface (CHI) Senior Project Leader.
This is a remote-capable, part-time/casual position and supports the CHI office at Marshal Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, AL.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide unique technical Avionics Computer Human Interface (CHI) insight to the HLS provider to ensure the CHI capability needed by the crew will be provided by the spacecraft avionics design. The CHI Avionics Engineer will support the Space Vehicle Systems (SVS) Avionics Team. Review HLS provider design, analysis, test and verification products associated with development of CHI domains (i.e., displays/control, imagery, audio, lighting) to support HLS provider certification and operational efforts.
  • Understand provider planning based on being highly familiar with provider systems to guide targeted reviews and enable a successful development, build and operations strategy.
  • Partner with providers and other subject matter experts to enable a clear strategy that aligns reviews and surveillance with high-risk elements of the providers' design and process.
  • May undertake systems-level architectural analyses, conceptual design of a new vehicle.
  • May be required to investigate urgent technical problems or assemble a major briefing or report.
  • As Aerospace representative in a customer or contractor's environment, provides nondirective advice, accepts action items and may coordinate pertinent budgets, tasks, and priorities.
  • In systems engineering assignments, generally leads/coordinates team comprised of diversely skilled engineers servicing a major portion of a large project or working across projects, and interfaces regularly with customer and contractor program management.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Communicate effectively with peers and supervisors to explain problems, issues, and possible solutions, i.e., Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with senior contractor and government management
  • Demonstrated ability to plan beyond the current project, phase, iteration that lends itself to a sustainable solution architecture that keeps pace with technology advancements and research results

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • An advanced degree in engineering, computer science or related applicable technical discipline.
  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of solution architecting, systems engineering processes, project management.
  • Specifically:
    • Experience in human factors design & verification
    • Experience develop the verification methods for human factors requirements and performing verification testing on the human interfaces
    • Experience with software development and verification for GNC and displays

$47 - $77 - $107
