Fluidra’s looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our team at our West Coast office in Carlsbad, CA.

 

WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE 

The Sr. Quality Engineer works within a cross-functional team including Design Engineers, Customer Service, Product Marketing, Supply Chain and Manufacturing to provide overall Quality management and support of Fluidra Pool and Spa products. The Sr. QE is a critical member and contributor within this team and is deeply involved in New Product Development and Customer Quality. They must have the ability to negotiate and influence KPI metrics, drive and facilitate problem solving, perform failure analysis, implement process controls, promote risk mitigation plans, develop and manage quality assurance plans, and effectively and regularly communicate the issues to upper-level management. The Sr. QE uses a fact-based approach to improve the quality performance of products.

This position requires a strong sense of urgency, proficient verbal and written communication skills with a leadership mentality that would enable the Sr. QE to have a major influence on Quality decisions within the project.

  • Drive Quality initiatives at assigned Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers thereby improving the Quality performance through Effective Problem Solving and proper use of other Fluidra and industry standard Quality tools and concepts.
  • Lead Quality related activities during project proto-builds. Manage / Coordinate the participants of the build team and generate the necessary reports. Review / communicate / share the status with the project team accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain effective, positive relationships with the cross functional teams to manage and implement change notifications (ECR’s, ECO’s, Deviations, etc.
  • Lead the New Product Development Quality activities including but not limited to: Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), DVT (Design Validation Testing), creating Quality Documents and general ownership of Quality matters related to assigned projects.
  • Input to respective Supplier Quality Scorecards and implementation of the common key metrics: First Pass Yield, MFR, PPM defect rate, Manufacturing Cycle Times.
  • Conduct Process and Systems Audits of key Suppliers ensuring compliance, good manufacturing capability and development of gap action plans. Engage in the Manufacturing Readiness implementation of suppliers related to assigned projects.
  • Perform all necessary source Inspections of critical components to the print / standard requirements at Suppliers. Ability to articulate and select the necessary AQL sample rate for a given product or component.
  • Provide advanced Quality Engineering support during new process introduction using APQP methodology or similar NPI/NPD models.
  • Perform functional level testing / troubleshooting of assigned products in the Quality Lab and drive actions to improve product deficiencies with the Manufacturing and/or Engineering teams.
  • Provide Quality KPI input to the project DVT (Design Validation Testing) plan. Set and maintain agreed pass/fail criteria with Engineering.
  • Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturing) activities within the project and drive an effective action plan.
  • Provide direct input to the continuous improvement efforts of the NPD process. Develop and implement the necessary tools to communicate and resolve issues clearly and effectively.

 

WHAT WE SEEK

  • 5 years’ experience working in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Sourcing environment.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or Engineer - Preferred
  • Experience as Lead Auditor or extensive participation in auditing Quality Plans and Quality Management Systems.
  • Detailed understanding of manufacturing process control, with emphasis on manual/semi-automated product testing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology limitations related to the more common electronics components such as transformers, printed circuit boards, displays, relays, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard Injection Molding Processes
  • Knowledge and effective use of Corrective Action 8D (Root Cause and Corrective Actions) reports and/or AIAG CQI-20 Effective Problem-Solving models.
  • Experience with practical use of basic Quality and Manufacturing tools (Control Plan, PFMEA, PFC, W.I., etc.)
  • Some knowledge and understanding of the functionality of the major components and technologies used in the pool industry – 3 minimum.

  • Familiarity with the basic requirements of the different safety agencies (UL, CSA, CE, etc.).
  • Ability to use basic electronics and measurement test equipment (multimeters, measurement gauges, calipers, etc).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google products, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.
  • Read, write and communicate fluently and clearly in English
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk around; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting of equipment under test and associated support equipment will also be required. Typically, < 25lbs.
  • Travel is required (appx 25%).

Expected salary range is $110,000 - $140,000. Fluidra offers a comprehensive total rewards / benefits program that includes base salary, annual bonus based on performance of individual and company objectives, competitive 401K matching, paid vacation and sick time, full range of health benefits, educational assistance, etc. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience and location.
