POSITION SUMMARY
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team facilitates prompt identification, assessment, management, reporting, and monitoring of risks in support of the Santander US Enterprise Risk Management framework and with the goal of effective and sustainable risk management across the organization. Santander US is in a transformational stage with key strategic initiatives underway. The Senior Director role to act as a deputy for the Head of SHUSA ERM and as Head of One Auto ERM is required to ensure effective execution of the ERM programs across Santander US.
- The Sr. Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for implementing San US's Enterprise Risk Management Framework, which comprises the organization's approach to enterprise-wide risk governance, identification, assessment, management, and reporting. This position will report to the Santander US Head of Enterprise Risk Management. The ERM framework ensures that all risks across the organization are well-understood, well-governed and appropriately managed.
- The Senior Director of Enterprise Risk Management will also be specifically responsible for the execution of this framework for the Auto business and should capture all types of risk across all material business lines and legal entities. He or she will work closely with risk managers and business leaders at the parent (SHUSA) and subsidiary (SC and SBNA) levels. The Senior Director will also act as a key deputy for the Santander US ERM Head.
- This position will support the Head of ERM in her management of oversight of the core SAN US ERM programs and also have direct oversight of the One Auto ERM programs. Core programs include:
- Risk Identification (Material Risk Program)
- Risk Appetite
- Risk Governance and Reporting
- New Products Approval
- Strategic Risk
- Regulatory Interface
- Climate Risk
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide oversight on the development of qualitative and quantitative limits and metrics within the SHUSA Risk Appetite program across SHUSA and One Auto, ensuring it is properly maintained, reviewed/challenged, and governed
- Oversee the development and maintenance of risk governance polices with an effective risk governance process for One Auto; maintain Santander Consumer's Risk committee charters, composition, and reporting structure at management and Board levels
- Oversee the One Auto Material Risk Program, ensuring downstream risk, capital planning, and strategic planning are informed by the results. Report One Auto's Material Risk inventory to senior management, the Board, and regulators on a regular basis
- Oversee SHUSA's New Product Approval process ensuring robust review and challenge for initiatives and consistency across the subsidiaries
- Oversee SHUSA's Regulatory Interface team, coordinating with FLoD and SLoD stakeholders as well as Regulatory Relations to maintain SHUSA's regulatory alignment
- Collaborate with senior management, peers at the operating entities and at Corporate (Madrid) to ensure that ERM roles and programs achieve effective and sustainable risk management across Santander US
- As needed, build and manage a high-performing team within One Auto ERM with the capabilities for risk identification, assessment, governance, and oversight; develop team members for future roles/growth opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelors or Equivalent
- Experience: 15+ years in financial services (10+ in risk management), preferable with a U.S. regulated banking institution.
- Proficient at managing multiple stakeholders with strong negotiation skills; ability to influence beyond immediate teams in order to fully implement the risk management program.
- Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to influence peers and business units and interact effectively with senior management and regulators.
- Superior leadership and organizational skills, with strong focus on staff development and mentorship
- Broad understanding of best practices for industry-standard ERM processes, including risk identification, risk appetite, and risk governance
- Must be able to multi-task, prioritize activities, manage conflicts, delegate and meet deadlines while working in a dynamic environment
- Broad understanding of processes, metrics, and techniques supporting the management of credit, market, and operational risk
- Knowledge of Auto Finance risk management and market
