Sr. Scientist

Summary

Alcon is looking for a Sr. Scientist to join our Surgical Evaluations team in R&D in Fort Worth, TX. The purpose of this position is to evaluate the performance of our products via in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro studies, supporting the business of our customers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides expertise in intraocular device (IOD) research: study design, protocol development and execution, data analysis, modeling, interpretation, and reporting
• Applies various approaches and strategies to evaluate the IOD's safety and effectiveness, supporting the discovery, characterization, validation, and verification of novel therapies
• With minimal guidance, performs experiments, troubleshoots issues, evaluates data, generates reports, and presents data at internal forums
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams on assigned projects, serves as SME and influence design & development strategy based on scientific data
• Stays current on literature and technological advances, contributes ideas that promote current research
• Preps animal and/or human tissue, assists surgeon as the surgical assistant
• Supplies technical advice and counsel to peers, may teach techniques to others
• Assists in general laboratory management and maintenance
• Manages lab supply inventory and places order as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate field with 1-2+ years of full time academic or industry laboratory experience preferred
• Deep knowledge in ophthalmology, biology, bioengineering, biostatistics, and related fields required
• Previous training and hands-on experience with in vivo, ex vivo and/or in vitro study required
• Previous ophthalmology research experience preferred
• Previous medical image processing and analysis experience preferred
• Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science skills preferred
• Good understanding and practice of GxP preferred
• Demonstrated excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, and attention to details
• Highly motivated self-starter and problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and work independently, being flexible with assigned tasks/projects

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
• Work hours: M-F, standard
• Travel Requirements: 10-15%, domestic or international
